I was basing the layout on the 'Xbox 360 Controller' page which also features a 'Colors and Special Editions' section which is in the form of a list, and I have previously added new Xbox 360 controller colors and noticed you have also done the same - so I cant understand why a similar list on the Nintendo GameCube Controller page was completely removed? I will admit that my list wasn't perfect, but I had planned to improve it over the next few days by expanding the information and adding references/links/tidying up."

The main difference between the 360 controller page and the GameCube controller page is the amount of info about each controller. Wikipedia discourages lists if something can be clearly be written as normal prose. In the case of the 360 controller, there is a lot to be said about some (not all) of the controllers; if there were nothing more than main-shell colour differences between the controller (like with most of the GC controllers) then it could be handled in prose too.

Whilst the purple GameCube controller was called "Indigo" In the US, thats certainly not the case in all parts of the world - in Europe it was simply called "Purple". I wasn't aware of the indigo/purple thing, and I'm from the UK; I just didn't ever look at the advertising at the time so assumed what I saw now (which is mainly US stuff) was representative.

If you have the details to expand it (release dates, quantity released etc.), by all means change it to a similar layout to the 360 controller article, but if all that it is going to do is list colours/what bundle it was with, a short paragraph is preferable as it takes up far less vertical space.

Also, if you have data which can expand things but doesn't justify the list and conflicts with existing data (such as the "matching the common available colors of GameCube consoles" sentence), feel free to reword what's written around it.

Basically what I'm trying to say is if there is a large amount of info about one or two controllers, expand the prose; if there is lots for a few more (maybe 5 or so) or one of the controllers' info is likely to take up a lot of room, put it in a list.

Also, please cite anything you add (especially dates, as those are far more plausible when false) otherwise you might as well have made it up - we can't trust it. If you don't know how to, just put the URL in ref tags like this: <ref>www.url.com</ref>; or copy one of the existing citations (is fairly simple). Also bear in mind that some of the existing data needs sources as well, so if you can find some that'd be great. If not, put {{Citation needed|date=September 2010}} after it unless it is common sense/common knowledge.

One last thing: If you don't have the info now, don't change it to a list. The nature of Wikipedia means that we don't really need to consider "expandability" unless we are making a template or something (and even then it doesn't matter all that much).

One more thing: you can make a page within your user page to build up a prototype before adding it. This prevents any disruption (multiple edits showing up in peoples watchlists etc) and allows a fully-formed new version to be added rather than being done in small sections. Just go to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Link83/something (where something is what you want to call it). It's quite useful for testing etc as well, and a lot of people (including me) use it for archiving their discussion pages.

For the most part that looks great; the only problems I see for the brief look I had were a few minor grammar issues and the fact that the "Luigi" controller was also available in Europe. I have no issue with the "re-release" section; although I don't personally think it's necessary the segmentation takes nothing away from the article so it might as well stay. Fair enough about the Luigi thing, I was just assuming that site was accurate. I didn't get my GameCube until about a year and a half ago so I'm not exactly knowledgeable about Club Nintendo/Star Catalogue stuff.

Yes, and presumably the official name for the purple one is "Indigo controller"/"Purple controller" (depending on the region). The design would not be called "Mario Controller", which is how it is worded. Since it is in the controller article it can kinda be taken as a given that the packaging would say controller, that's all. Basically it wouldn't make sense for Nintendo to list it or sell it as simply "Mario" (unless it is in a list of controller designs), but in the context of controller colours/designs, it makes no sense not to. IGN seems to think it's called "Original Design Controller: Mario". Presumably they got the name from Nintendo (a catalogue or whatever) since it is in quotation marks, so I don't think the exact wording on the controller box necessarily reflects the "official name" of the controller, just how it was packaged (which make sense since it didn't use standard controller packaging). http://uk.cube.ign.com/articles/528/528721p1.html Alphathon™ (talk) 17:04, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
