Founding members

You are correct that prods cannot be put back once they have been removed. However, I cannot imagine that some the articles on the individual members of Alpha Kappa Alpha will be found notable at AfD unless more information is provided. There has to be some source for their individual notability, each one of them. If you c an find anything about their respective careers, please add it--I think being a faculty member at a college may possibly do it, if you emphasize he pioneer nature of their careers there. Teaching alone has not in the past been sufficient unless shown by award from more than just the university level. For the ones who were high schools teachers, you will probably need something specially distinctive--it has proven very difficult to get such articles accepted--recognition at at least a state level is necessary, and preferably national.

The information given in the sorority historical write-ups such as [2] is not going to be considered a reliable source, but it may lead you to such sources as newspaper articles in local papers.
I understand the nature of their accomplishments in their period, and so will others But it will be necessary to show it according to the usual conventions here. I can only offer advice; I do not make the standards--I am trying to give you the most accurate advice I can about how I think they are likely to be interpreted here. I advise you to work as quickly as possible, for they are likely to very soon be challenged. DGG (talk) 04:52, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Founders of organizations are all notable. If they aren't, then founders of
censoring Wikipedia, I suggest you to delete the articles that I have so tirelessly worked on, leave AKA and the list as a B so I can get the fuck out of this project, and do something else which has benefits. Sincerely, Miranda

I agree that founders of organizations are notable, the majority of founders have done other notable things i.e.
Ernest Everett Just one of the founders of Omega Psi Phi. The founding of some organizations have made an impact to society and American history as well, therefore their founders should be considered notable too. Knicksfan4ever 14:20, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

absolutely the ones who have done other notable things are notable. If the majority have, great--the majority get articles. DGG (talk) 22:00, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

African American Sororities

It would be interesting to do an article about the overall topic of African American sororities, what they meant to women's success in college, the job market and communities. There appears to be quite a bit of academic study of this topic recently, as people recognize the importance of building networks and social capital. --Parkwells (talk) 16:19, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

AKA Founders

I've completed the first reworking of the Founders articles, based on your materials - mostly rewriting the leads to stress later accomplishment and trying to emphasize some of each individual's career achievements, which are needed for separate article notability. There are a few that probably won't make separate articles, but I think most will, as the women were wonderfully accomplished. Now I'm going to try to get them as consistent as possible and look for some more sources, too.

Have come across some interesting info about the status of M Street/Dunbar High School, the only academic high school in DC for African Americans in those years. It was a place of such high standards that students went there from other cities. The teachers were very highly qualified, and as they were Federal employees then, they were paid on the same scale as white teachers.

It's easy to get some sense of how these women were living a great social change, as an unusually high proportion of the 20 founders did not appear to marry or have children. They were living big public lives, and it's not always easy to do both. It's like the pattern of women who came of age in the first years of the 1960s-1970s women's movement. About one-third did not have children. Later women have managed both to work in new fields and have children.--Parkwells (talk) 21:14, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

I am busy to start an article, but you can find out more in
NPHC. Thanks for your help. Miranda
00:33, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
As an FYI, this was also a time when women were forced to choose between work and marriage--once women married, they often had to resign their jobs.

I feel that the history section is based on one source only. For example, see Alpha Kappa Alpha, which incorporates multiple sources. Are there books on the history of the fraternity? Miranda 20:00, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Miranda, I have looked for other sources, but have not found any. As far as I know the only book on the histroy of the Fraternity would be the White Diamond. It is the pledge manual, but it is published by national headquarters. I don't see that as an independent source. Suggestions? I went back and properly cited the history section. is that more in line with MOS? ThanksStorkpkp (talk) 20:19, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Apology Accepted

Dear Miranda,

I accept your apology, and I would like to apologize to you for overreacting. I'm not going to give you any "advice" on how to work on Wikipedia. You are just as capable as I am of finding and reading the policy statements and guidelines.

I hope this lowers your level of stress as much as it does for me, if not more. Let me add that I did not understand that your userbox was using the term "babysitter" to refer to "administrator." This means that I was not curious enough about you to click on the userbox. Maybe it would also help you to know that I have not looked at a single one of the stub articles you list on your userpage (other than the one that started this whole thing). I am not watching your userpage, and I would ask that you not watch mine.

You may also be interested to know that of the fifty or sixty articles I tagged for speedy deletion in the last few days, only five are still on Wikipedia. Of those five, only one caused me stress, and I hope this chapter is now closed - for both of us.

Miranda, thanks. I put in for a peer review from one of the volunteers. On those references, I do not see where they back up the information contained in the article. They may contain some more information to include, but do not give a history of the fraternity. Oh, and when I am citing a source for the notable alumni section, do I put a reference after every person or at the end of the section? Thanks Storkpkp (talk) 20:06, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
You can use the organization's history book. But, secondary sources such as other books are good to use if you want a GA. Also, has the fraternity been in the news? You may want to use news sources. For the people notable in the organization you may want to create a list...like

Hey. I was wondering why you delisted the aforementioned article? You claimed cites and grammar, but there are no {{fact}} tags, and the grammar appears good. Given how favorable the GA review was, you should have brought up what was needed, rather than outright delisting it. --♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 03:32, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

  • "Oil production was slowed as a result of Humberto, as at least four refineries - the Valero plant in Port Arthur and the ExxonMobil, Total SA and Motiva Enterprises LLC plants in Beaumont - were halted due to the loss of power."
Needs dash.
  • Delete repetitive hyperlinking of dates (i.e. if you hyperlinked September 12, you don't need to hyperlink it again).
  • "X city, Y state," not "X city, Y state" per
    MOS
    .
  • Refs 28-30 needs the citation template.

When these concerns have been addressed, I will put the GA back up. Also, GA's going to be much stricter next year. So, we better start getting adjusted to the new system! :-D Merry Christmas!

miranda
04:26, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

Still, I strongly disagree with delisting. The appropriate route would have been a GA review, or at the very least citing your concerns on the talk page, and not saying your concerns on here ;) I disagree with repetitive hyperlinking, as September 12 should linked every time for user preferences. Also, why do you suggest that GA's will be much stricter next year? I changed the few (really minor) things you mentioned. Sorry, but if you don't think it's GA, then I'll put it up for GA review. Have a Merry Christmas! --♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 06:27, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

I noted the improvements (with minor ones from myself) that you made and re-promoted the article to GA.

Thanks

For the Congrats. Not everything in there was accurate and they put their own gloss on articles, but that is typical of the MSM. --David Shankbone 15:26, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

DHMO's RfA

Hi, Miranda. I cannot tell if you are still opposing in this. The formatting does not show a number before your comments, but counts yours in subsequent comments. Let me know if you need help formatting. Dlohcierekim 23:48, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Yep, I am opposing.

Re: Moral Support

Hi Miranda, Thanks for you opinion on my RFA. Two things, then if you want to please change your opinion. I participate in 7 wikiprojects, and I have offered an adoption to a user. Both your suggestions, I already have. Will this affect your opinion. Please, if possible, reply on my talk page.

Victoria Beckham

Hi there, I just thought I'd ask your help for this matter about the Victoria Beckham article. What do you think about this being in the article:

"Beckham seems keen for the public to forget her solo music career, going so far as to have her biography on the Official Spice Girls webpage contain no information whatsoever on the history of her solo music career

The Return of the Spice Girls Tour, instead doing a makeshift catwalk and pose in the style of a fashion show. [2]
"

I've removed the paragraph once, but the user who wrote it has put it back. I'm of the opinion that it's a POV as it states "seems". I don't know, I just feel that it's not the right tone for the article. I think it's the fact that she just wants to move on, rather than forget her solo career. Would be good to have your opinion. Many thanks. Eagle Owl (talk) 14:23, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Doesn't she say in a quote that she didn't want to sing again, except with the the Spice Girls?
