I would like to discuss a method of correcting or clarifying previous posts when the information isn't readily available through a web search, but is found among printed journals or field guides. Sure. It's late right now so I haven't gone through the Pax article with a fine-toothed comb, but what jumped out at me was the claim that Pax is "long been known" to belong to Boletacaceae. I've never heard that before. What I have seen is that Paxillus is an evolutionary link between the the all-gilled mushrooms (agarics) and all-pored boletes, which you rightly point out as being evidenced by the way that cross-walls appear so frequently near the base that the gills start to look more like pores. Modern genetic evidence reveals that this link theory to explain their presence was valid.

Further, it's my understanding that agarics, boletes and pax's are all represented by different families that reflect their different form, but that they all fall under Agaricales, and not bolete > pax with agarics as something separate. email me at < mycos at shaw dot ca > and we'll hash this out so we can avoid an edit war okay? --Mycos (talk) 08:50, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies for the delay. It appears likely that I was referring to the publication dates of papers, by Altemeyer, referenced in Kruglanski et al's - Political Conservatism As Motivated Social Cognition (Jost, Glaser, Kruglanski & Sulloway) Psychological Bulletin 2003, Vol. 129, No. 3 Specifically: Altemeyer, R. A. (1981). Right-wing authoritarianism. Altemeyer (1988). Enemies of freedom: Understanding right-wing authoritarianism. Altemeyer (1996). The authoritarian specter. Altemeyer (1998). The other “authoritarian personality.” A title that refers to the Social Dominance-Oriented personality for which Pratto is usually credited with describing as a distinct syndrome or personality type.
