Sockpuppet investigation

Saqib (talk) 09:11, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Warning, not off the hook

The SPI found that you are the various other names you used, Adeel Safi, etc. The closing administrator found that since you are currently only using one account (at my encouragement) to not block you for past behavior. Bear in mind that any single future sock-puppetting instance will likely result in a lifetime block from editing. Also, bear in mind that I am pretty much the only one defending you, but that will end if you remove

Secretary to Government of India from the See also section one more time. I don't care a whit about the national rivalry or insensitivity. You literally copied and pasted the original page from that source and they still bear a strong similarity, both the Wikipedia articles and the topic themselves. They should be linked on both. End of story. Hope you can abide by the many rules you've been told on a half-dozen talk pages and fix some consistent formatting issues you're still having, and continue to contribute helpfully. @JesseRafe: Thank you so much for defending my case, I know you did and I am grateful. Also, I am sorry if I removed Secretary to GoI tag but I didn't do it on purpose as if you see the edit history, I cut out the whole reference section and put it underneath the 'see also' section. There wasn't any See Also section before if I recall correctly. (Regent007 (talk) 18:14, 14 February 2018 (UTC))[reply]
It's the 4th time you've done it. JesseRafe (talk) 18:54, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@JesseRafe: How can you defend this users hijacking of a BLP? --Saqib (talk) 16:32, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Saqib: The memon community is known for its business. Almost every memon runs a business and belongs to some local business trade association, however the personality should be famous and notable (to feature on wiki), the profession of having spent his career as a senior bureaucrat who headed a federal ministry, that should be the basis of the article. It has nothing to do with JesseRafe defending me. He gave me a chance to improve the articles on Pakistani pages and if you check my contributions, I have done so at numerous articles. I also added references on the 'Siddiq Memon' page, before you reverted the whole article. You can check them. (Regent007 (talk) 17:19, 20 February 2018 (UTC))[reply]
@Saqib:, I have no idea what you're talking about, have never seen that page in my life, and that's not even a diff to this user's edits, or are you saying that they're using another sock with almost 20,000 edits in their history? Please don't imply, or even suggest, I did any action that does not have a direct link to an edit I made ever again. Thanks. JesseRafe (talk) 18:43, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Redundant wikilinks

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I've reverted your this edit because this is redundant wikilinks. Generally, we do not link common words such as Pakistani, politician etc.. We also don't repeatedly link a name or words twice. --Saqib (talk) 16:23, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop wikilinking common words and terms. --Saqib (talk) 15:54, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

March 2018: Citation information

Information icon Hello, I'm ToBeFree. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source, so I removed it. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! ~ ToBeFree (talk) 17:26, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again - the above message was not entirely correct: I did not actually remove the information. I just added a "citation needed" tag to it. For reference, I am copying our conversation on my talk page to yours:

Copy of the conversation at User talk:ToBeFree

Hello sir, saw ur msg on my talk page. Can you please point out what information I added/subtracted without giving citation, you didn't give me the article name? Thank you (Regent007 (talk) 19:50, 20 March 2018 (UTC))[reply]

@Regent007: Oh, hi! Sorry, I should have pointed out what article I was talking about. You're contributing a lot of useful information to Wikipedia! My message was about the article "Sohail Aman", a Pakistani officer who retired recently - and that information was indeed correct, so thank you again for adding it. Sadly, there had not been any reliable citations about his retirement, and four different users updated the article at the same time, all without adding references. So I added the "Citation needed" tag to the retirement date without actually removing it, and someone with the IP 39.48.215.157 later added a link to this article at Pakistan Observer: [1] This seems to be a good, reliable source.
So the problem has been solved; here's a short timeline of the events:
The problem here was that unsourced information had been added to a biography of a living person. All users who had been editing the article in that time period have received a little message on their talk page, just like yours. This was not specifically directed against you; I just thought it can't hurt to add it to your page too.
We need to be careful that nobody adds incorrect, maybe libellous or defamatory information to this kind of articles. For this reason, statements that are not backed up by
reliable sources
normally get deleted as quickly as possible. In this case, I decided not to delete the information because it seemed to be reasonable, didn't appear to be vandalism and has been added and improved by many users at the same time. So I assume that you all have read/heard about this in the local news. Next time, I suggest to simply add a link to your news source, so that everybody can verify the information. You can use "ref"erence tags for this:
Lorem Ipsum, famous singer, has released a new album.<ref>http://example.com/good-news-article</ref>
Hope that helps - have a nice day! ~ ToBeFree (talk) 20:53, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to remove or archive the whole "March 2018: Citation information" section from your talk page if you like to. I have just added it for your convenience, and so that my little "warning" doesn't appear in the wrong context. :)
