That's nice of him. I've stricken my comment about it being non-free on the DYK noms page. If you really want the logo to be used, you should say so in the nomination. The editors at the

notable enough. Specifically, they're saying it fails Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). The primary criteria is secondary sources, essentially if a third party has written about the database. A fast search shows that many journals mention the database in passing, but few actually analyze the database. I did a quick scan through my library and it looks like there's one "journal" that does analyze the database. The citation is "Data Goldmine", Management Today Mar2004, p66-71 by Andrew Saunders. It's an inset of this page. If you email me I can email you the relevant part. It's copyrighted so I can't put it on Wikipedia. Oh, here are two newspaper sources: "BOARDEX AIMS TO SET THE STANDARD", Financial News (Daily), May 4, 2003. And "BOARDEX SEES A BOOST FROM HIGGS REPORT", Financial News (Daily), January 26, 2003. I can't find a link for these online either. Maybe tomorrow I can find some time to spruce up the article. In the meantime, mention these sources at the AfD and see what the other editors say. Thank you for the rescue, I just have a concern though, this user CDT007, has been having edit wars with me, I tried fixing the references before but he keeps on reverting to the previous edit he/she made. I've left a message on his talk page but are there other ways to warn him/her? Hmm, it looks like CDT007 removed the categories in this edit. I would assume the edit was done in good faith and the category removal was unintentional. Since no other reverts were made, the user most likely isn't against other users editing the article. I would add the categories back in, and if CDT007 removes them again, drop a note on their talk page to begin a discussion on the issue.

Hmmm, interesting.

• I'll look into image checking on T:TDYK. It's possible. I've thought about it before, and it seems like the images have to be checked manually anyways to see if the uploader is the same person as the author. If the script checks for nonfree templates, images with incorrect source/license tags will be more likely to slip through, because people won't be checking manually.
• No on checking for wikiproject tags. It doesn't affect the eligibility of the article for DYK in any way. Also, the documentation page for
  a similar template
  says that the template should not be added to otherwise empty talk pages. That changes the "discussion" tab at the top of the page from a "redlink" into a "bluelink", which may mislead people into thinking there is discussion.
• References are difficult to piece together from HTML, so this is technically hard. I've been thinking of creating a counter, saying there are X citations in the article from Y unique sources, and even that would take some doing.
• Categories don't affect DYK eligibility either.

I fiddled around a bit, and it looks like it would take some doing. DYKcheck uses javascript functions built into the Mediawiki API to make calls to the server, and I was having trouble with Greasemonkey's GM_xmlhttpRequest. Wow, nice effort. An inline tag or two won't fail a DYK nomination, but if we get something working well, I could add it in with the alert color less striking. My article tag code doesn't notice how many tags there are; it just sees if the tag exists or not. With inline tags, the code should output how many there are, especially since one or two is nothing to worry about. That could be done by replacing the for loop at the end with

My goal is to automate the DYK process so people spend more time improving hooks rather than scanning articles for errors and whatnot. Your are right that it should output how many as well...didn't think of that. Another thing I would like to add to the DYKchecker is a link that automatically adds a {{DYKproblem}} problem template to all the nominators and creators/expanders of an article(this should be fairly easy, I just don't remember the url. Yeah, that's why I made the script. Some of these things aren't checked by reviewers, so if it shows up in the script, it's more work on the reviewers rather than less. For example, stub classification isn't allowed by DYK rules, but few reviewers checked because the qualitative feel of the article means more than a tag. With the stub information in the script, the reviewers spend more time taking off stub tags, or worse, opposing a nom just because of a stub tag (I'm guilty of this too). I'll probably put these in tomorrow, but the alerts will be very inconspicuous so a reviewer can choose to ignore them. I'm thinking I'll have just the bullet in the list change color.

I'll look into notifying nominators. The link will lead to a page to create a new section on the nominator's talk page, with a blank DYKproblem template. I don't want to make the process "one-click"; at the least it will be two clicks. One issue here is that there's always a few noms that don't have the credits correct. You shouldn't feel as though you've created more work, reviewers can always ignore what the script says. As for the link, DYK should check to see if each person has a relevant problem template, and if not, open in a tab/window the edit link with the new section for a DYK problem template ready to go.Smallman12q (talk) 21:52, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

I'll see if I can get the link to produce a filled in DYKproblem template. A blank template is almost trivial, a filled in one is much tougher. It won't check the user talk pages, because that requires more calls to the server, and is a real mess if there are multiple nominators. A simple for loop doesn't work, the asynchronous javascript will kill it. There is a way to get around it (as I've done to make multi-article nom checking possible) but it's a mess. DYKcheck will probably have to wait until the weekend though, because I'm tending to DYKHousekeepingBot today, and the rest of the week looks busy. Shubinator (talk) 22:38, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Both points raised are true. The US Army has so many soldiers that I'm sure it would be true for anything that could be loosely called a sport (for example, table tennis). Because the hook is undoubtedly true, the first-party source doesn't matter so much. It is a promotional brochure though, made by the team itself. If it came from a platoon or something, mentioning some sports played by the soldiers, it would be more a third-party source. Don't be discouraged though; I've made worse blunders a few times now. The main rules are at

Wikipedia:Did_you_know/Additional_rules. The three big things to check are the length/expansion of the article, if the article was created or expanded in the day it's been nominated under, and if the hook fact is cited. For the first and second there's a script that calculates prose length and dates. The last, verifying the hook fact, is the main part that can't be done by computer. Check if the reference for the hook says what it's supposed to say. And that's it. Generally you should also give it a glance for broader issues like no cleanup tags, inline citations throughout the article, not just primary sources, and no bare URLs (but most of the time these aren't an issue). For me the routine is 1)open the article and run the script 2)glance over the article 3)find the hook fact and verify. Shubinator (talk

Looks like he's on a roll. For future reference, the credits for a set of hooks are in the queue. The

queues page shows the upcoming queue, so you can subtract one to figure out which queue the current set came from. Then just look in the history, find look at the revision before the bot clear, scroll down to the "Credits" section, and click on the "give" link for the ones you want to credit. Shubinator (talk

The comment text at the top of each section says this is optional: "Please add your suggestion to the TOP of this section using either the template provided or a level 4 header with the name of the new/expanded article." (Emphasis mine)

If you would like me (and, I suppose, other editors), to use that template exclusively, then change that text to require the template be used. I've been nominating DYKs and reviewing them for a long time; I still find it easier to do it the old, all-by-hand way. If this is how we want things done now, let's be clear about it.
