Mole hill

Hello. I thought I heard him say that when I first watched. I went back and checked the DVR just now, and when the second team arrives at Jon's bench, he says "...good news, you've made it to the halfway point..." It could have been him just being folksy, and some small talk, but if the elapsed time is an indication, it's probably about right. So since he said "halfway point," I think it's fair for us to include that phrase. Doctorindy (talk) 13:10, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Whose Line Is It Anyway?

Good job on this article. I'd made a start on the whole mess of original research and fancruft that it had become, but you've really whipped it into shape now. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 22:05, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mythbusters

You took down something of mine and I would like to work with you so I can become better at editing Wikipedia.
It was on the Mythbusters page. I am new, but please assume I know not to soap-box, post original research or loose NPOV. Privately I do have some observations about the recent seasons of the show:

Adam is becoming a diva.
They dip people in goo more often.
PETA is loosing power over the show. Most people wouldn’t harm animals for entertainment but would harm animals for science.

The PETA point is the only one of encyclopedic merit. I believe this is the case because Mythbusters is setting a precedent for other developing media. Mythbusters is a part of semi-mature class of television which has little 4th wall and a lot of internet participation.

I was careful with my change. Berrying in mind, Non-original research is hard to find for most any television show. Also that I want to keep the page only containing the most relevant information. I felt that expanding the sentence on cockroaches to illuminate a general trend was the best solution. I don’t think it was too wordy. The first version is 96 words and my version is 98.

I changed this:

The program generally avoids experiments harmful to animals and people that cannot be tested safely, though in one episode they bombarded cockroaches and other laboratory insects with lethal doses of radiation and the cast addressed this, saying that the insects were specifically bred for experiments and would have likely died anyway. In another episode, Kari Byron intentionally allowed herself to be stung by a jellyfish, though it was revealed beforehand by an expert at the aquarium where the jellyfish was obtained that the experiment they had planned would not be a serious threat to Kari's safety.

To this:

While Mythbusters is science, it also follows the rule of not harming living things for the purpose of entertainment. In one episode Adam was required to be sprayed by a skunk. However the teem couldn’t mistreat the animal in any way. Several attempts and environments where tried until finally the behavior was induced in a PETA approved manner. An exception to this is an episode where cockroaches and other laboratory insects where bombarded with lethal doses of radiation. The cast addressed the morality, saying that the insects were specifically bred for experiments and would have likely died anyway.
Is there any part of this which belongs on Wikipedia? Pstaight (talk) 13:13, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Good work on the article. It appears the article took a bit of a beating format wise while I took my eye off it, though! Can I ask what you think about the date format in the article (uses 21 August 2008 standard)? Jamaica is also written thus but Jamaican news websites seem to be favouring the American standard. The article was originally written with British dates and lexicon and I reverted the changes against this but am now unsure about whether this is how the article should be written.

Also, it appears I had misunderstood the purpose of a lead - to summarise the only most important feats of the athlete (not to summarise the article as a whole). I currently have Dwain Chambers at FAC and I think you could really help me out. Only one editor is making suggestions currently and there seems to be little interest in editing athletics articles on wikipedia anyway. Any thoughts/suggestions are greatly appreciated. There's an entire section for "History." It isn't necessary to include historical data, specifically related to previous cash distributions, in the main body of the article.

The column format is not consistently used throughout Wikipedia and looked awkward in your edit. The two tables weren't the same height and bullet points/explanations didn't line up.

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Palmer1.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on

Hey J; I checked the talk pages of all of the relevant articles I could find and I didn't see any ask about the cigs. At least one brand has gone this way: popeye candy cigs were changed, at some point, in at least some markets, to be billed as popeye candy sticks. I believe, though this would be original research without a citation, that the move was made in recent years due to the obvious argument against offering children candy that portrays cigarettes as enjoyable. I'm not sure how many, or what other companies have taken similar moves. I hope this helps. TheHYPO (talk) 07:04, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Casa Loma copyright violation

Just wanted to let you know I left a comment regarding a section I blanked out from the Casa Loma article in January over on the copyright violations page. Other than that section that I blanked, I couldn't find anything else that matched exactly, but then again, I was a bit distracted at the time by other things anyway. You might have more luck with it than I did.

Also, the infobox and opening statement should be unmarked, in my opinion. Even if anything in it were copied from elsewhere, it'd be fair use, and it'd be recreated if the infobox was ever added to the page in its rewrite. Likewise, the opening statement, as it'd be difficult, if not impossible, to rewrite it some other way. (BTW, the opening statement may be from http://www.galenfrysinger.com/ontario_toronto_casa_loma.htm but with a slight variation in translation; a Google search for the phrase pulled this up right after the WP article. Other text on that page sounds familiar, too.) --coldacid (talk|contrib) 05:17, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Hornbook

Hi TheHYPO,

I'm asking Wikipedians who are interested in

WP:Hornbook
, the new "JD curriculum task force".

Our mission is to assimilate into Wikipedia all the insights of an American law school education, by reducing hornbooks to footnotes.

  • I'm encouraging law students around the country to create local chapters of the club I'm starting at my own law school, "Student WP:Hornbook Editors". Using
    WP:Hornbook
as our headquarters, we're hoping to create a study group so inclusive that nobody will dare not join.

What you can do now:

1. Add
Wikipedia:Hornbook/participants
.
2. If you're a law student,
(You don't have to start the club, or even be involved in it; just help direct me to someone who might.)
3. Introduce yourself to me. Law editors on Wikipedia are a scarce commodity. Do knock on my talk page if there's an article you'd like help on.

Hockey Numbers

Although it was several years ago now, you pulled what you considered trivial information off of the Hockey number section. But if you look at the history of numbers in the NHL the shift to numbers above 30 was a significant change in the tradition of the NHL and so describing how this happened with references is not any more trivial than talking about number of peoples jerseys in general. When I first read the article, it said that there was no basis for number selection in the NHL and that lower numbers were not more valued. This is untrue to this day. However it was very rare to see a number over 40 before the selection of higher numbers by Espo, Hodge, Gretzky. But you chose to delete this information. Well if that is the case, the only non trivial information is: "In hockey you can be any number between 1-98." Any more information is anecdotal. The point is, if you are going to slash articles with this information do it in a consistent manner instead of arbitrarily determining what is and isn't useful information.Kevinskogg (talk) 19:21, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for not signing. After your edits, the full story of how Gretzky ended up with 99 was removed. And one of your edit comments said removing trivial items. I assumed that meant all of that set of edits. My original verbiage had been corrupted and needed to be cleaned up when you got there I agree, for example the parenthetical statement about the NHL retiring 99 like baseball did for 42 was out of place. But the point of that story was to show the direct link from Esposito's decision to Gatsby's number selection which, because of his eventual stature in the game, sped up the inclusion of non-hockey (as I call them) numbers in the game. Also, although it was not my inclusion, I think your comment about birth years is also wrong. My reasoning is this, Gordie Howe started in 1946-47 at the age of 18. He could have take his birth year 28 at that time but the Red Wings only numbered up to 22 and assigned numbers to players. Howe's original number of 17 was only changed the next year because it got him a lower berth on the Pullman car. It was typical in his era to be assigned numbers by the team. Considering that only one more birth year was available above the magic 30 and most number selection was done by the teams at this time, it falls that by the time individual numbers choices were common, only people born after 1930 were choosing so by the traditional "hockey number" system, birth years were not available. Therefore it wasn't really until recently that this became feasible under the hockey number "system," and for the writer to say this was a relatively new trend was correct.

Just an aside to this. When I was growing up my father was a high school running coach. One year, right before Espo went to the Rangers, his team bought extra warm up jerseys and my brother and I got our own with our HS graduation year on them. Boy did 1987 seem like a long way away. Being a little hockey fan I was disappointed by the number on the back. But then that winter Espo changed from 12 to 77 and I could now consider that it was a hockey number. I remember we had cable TV and at the time there weren't a lot of channels even on cable but one that we got was the MSG network. I remember watching the Rangers and want just to see this hockey jersey with such an outlandish number on it so I could pretend my #87 jersey was a hockey jersey (interesting now for me as the Pens are my #2 team.) There was no system, just like the "unwritten rules" of all sports, there was a protocol that people followed because that's the way it was. Turns out it was just because there were about 20 guys on a team and so you printed 20 jerseys with serial numbers and the first one was the goalie. Later as you had different rosters you added 10 more to cover everyone. And the first and last were goalies.Kevinskogg (talk) 20:22, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not

autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages
.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious

Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:01, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Hodges11.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to

fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale
.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 23:40, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:TonyRan1.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:TonyRan1.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the

image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Proposed deletion of Peepshow tour

The article Peepshow tour has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable concert tour fails both
WP:CONCERT TOUR
that has been incorrectly tagged as being sourced to primary references, because the only reference is an "Unofficial Peepshow song tracker" that now leads to a 404 website, for a year.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be

deleted for any of several reasons
.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
