The station originally started as a beautiful music station when it first went on-air in 1976. The station now primarily features Contemporary Hit Radio (CHR) / Top 40 programming. Current staff program hosts include: TJ Ryan, Susie Larson, Mindy Wills, Kent Bergstrom, and Tommy Kay.

History
The station first signed on in 1976 as WKZY with a program format featuring
On April 26, 1982, the call-sign was changed to WGLQ and the format became contemporary hit radio (CHR). The station adopted a new slogan alongside its new format as "The Rhythm of the Great Lakes." For almost a decade, the station was a "live-assist" station with TM Programming's Stereo Rock format. The station converted to fully local programming in the late 1980s. In the late 1990's, the station's slogan changed to "The Magic of the Great Lakes" and its on-air identifier "Magic 97" was introduced.
The station is owned by AMC Partners Escanaba, LLC which does business under the name Radio Results Network.
