Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Clerks

Source: Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

To help ensure the efficient functioning of the high volume Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents, an informal clerking process has been established.

Services

Prevent threads from being archived prematurely
The archive bot automatically archives threads 24 hours after the last comment. To prevent this from happening when a thread has not received enough comments, add a timestamp and request more discussion. In particular, reviews of lengthy
community ban
discussions need to have significant, representative participation before they are closed.
Seek additional comments from uninvolved parties
If a clique grabs hold of an issue, make a request for additional parties to become involved.
Remove improper posts
If
sock puppets
of banned users post, identify and delete as necessary.
Refactor (or collapse) excessively long posts
Disruptive comments may be refactored, deleted or placed in collapse boxes if they are completely inappropriate. To create a collapse box, use {{
hab
}} at the bottom.
Make sure parties are notified
If you see a thread where an involved party has not appeared, make sure they have been notified.
Ensure that community bans are logged
When a community ban discussion has closed, and a ban has been created, archive the thread, and make sure the ban is logged at Wikipedia:List of banned users, with a link to the archived thread.
Help with technical questions
For example, clerks may explain to editors how to gather
diffs
for presenting evidence.

Code of Conduct

  1. Do not act as a clerk on any thread where you are an involved party.
  2. Ensure fairness of process to all concerned.

Appropriate candidates

Any user in good standing, with at least 1,000 edits and no blocks in the past three months. Non-admins are particularly welcome.

Inappropriate candidates

Not everyone will have the diplomatic skills to calm the

tigers
. If a clerk is requested by a number of admins and/or other editors in good standing to refrain from further activity, a gracious acceptance is expected. This does not in any way reflect on their standing in the community or abilities in other areas.

List of volunteer clerks

Any editor in good standing may volunteer to clerk. To indicate your acceptance of the Code of Conduct and to facilitate communication, please add your name to the list. Editors who have not clerked recently may be removed from the list.
