Keep I remember this controversy. The comment caused consternation for the Broccoli growers and garnered national attention. GHWB had to back-peddle, and it was major news. With that said, another GHWB controversy (George H. W. Bush judicial appointment controversies) could be renamed to George H. W. Bush controversies and then include this as a heading. Comment I think many of you are forgetting that
Wikipedia is not a newspaper. Just because many newspapers have spoken about it, does not mean it is notable for a standalone article. I cannot see any encyclopedia having an article on this. It's also somewhat ridiculous to have an entire article about whether George H W Bush liked broccoli or not. --IWI (talk) 02:46, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply

But it is not just newspapers that have covered this. Many books do so too. Wikipedia covers the ridiculous if independent reliable non-news sources have significant coverage of it.

WP:ROTM is neither policy nor guideline and so is not a reason to delete. In any case, the matter was not routine – it was quite exceptional and memorable. And note that there has been continuing coverage and so expansion is required: How broccoli became a political hot potato: Provocative remarks by President Obama about his favourite vegetable have reignited a bitter ideological debate. Keep. His attitude to broccoli is covered in detail in many sources, including dry academic books and articles. I don't think I'm untypical (for an Englishman) in that the first two things I remember about the George H. W. Bush presidency are that he led the effort to chuck Saddam Hussein's forces out of Kuwait and that he hated broccoli.
