It seems to me these categorisations should be used very carefully as noted by Talk:Civilization, if possible only to articles with "civiliz/sation" in the title, and probably restrict Category:Civilizations by time to pre-1500 and perhaps even pre-500 CE examples (Category:Pre-Columbian civilizations excluded). A few things such as Role of Christianity in civilization (in post-classic subcat Category:Christendom), and in the modern cat Clash of Civilizations, History of Western civilization, Russian civilization, Category:Theorists on Western civilization‎, Category:Global civilization‎, should be manually upmerged/re-parented to Category:Civilizations. I see that there has been a series of seemingly futile attempts from September 2022 to February 2023 to put "Category:Medieval Islamic world" in all sorts of inappropriate "civilizations" categories that then get deleted. It was done by various users, who did not act in unison, and they don't have to have done it in bad faith, but for some reason, there were attempts at framing the "medieval Islamic world" as a "civilization" in the last quarter of 2022 (perhaps something to do with 2022 FIFA World Cup?). Always check the logs. Category:Modern civilizations (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs). Category:Global civilization (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) was also by the same Maxaxax user, you should add it to the nomination rather than hidden in the rationale.

In addition I'd like to raise another type of suggestion, namely to limit
WP:SHAREDNAME we should not categorize just by what happens to be part of the article title, so if we allow a set category with articles with "civilization" in the title we might also allow articles with "world" in the title (e.g. Western world) and it becomes a bit arbitrary where to draw the line. If this is perceived to be a good suggestion then I will nominate Category:Civilizations for renaming to Category:Civilization. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:59, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply

Well, at the very least, "civilization" should be in the
WP:ARBITRARYCATs about a Template:Controversial
topic.
The suggestion to have a Category:Civilization (singular) is an interesting one, but perhaps as a parent of Category:Civilizations (plural) for those ancient civilisations that are so titled or altnamed?
