OriginalSelf-Portrait at the Age of 34 (1640) by Rembrandt was similar in nature to a painting he undertook the previous year, and is heavily influenced by Titian's A Man with a Quilted Sleeve (c. 1509), Raphael's Portrait of Baldassare Castiglione and a 1498 self-portrait by Albrecht Dürer. It was painted while Rembrandt was at the peak of his power. According to the National Gallery, who hold the piece, "It seems as if Rembrandt refers deliberately to his famous predecessors in this portrait, and thus places himself in the tradition of great 'Old Masters'."
