Portal:Aboriginal peoples in Canada

Portal:Aboriginal peoples in Canada (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

We have Portal:Indigenous peoples of North America, which entirely encompasses this portal. Both portals have been dormant for years. i just added content to the NAM portal, and was going to start on others (including this one), but i feel that we have too many unmaintained portals on this subject. I am proposing we keep NAM, redirect this portal's tagged articles to NAM, and change the name of Portal:Indigenous peoples of the Americas to Portal:Indigenous peoples of Central and South America. This would mean no nesting portals, and content clearly going into one or the other. I will be happy to cut and paste content from this portal to the NAM one, and remove content from The Americas that is North focused, and build up the new South/Central portal. If all are kept as is, i have no interest in working on any of them any more. I believe that poorly maintained portals do us a huge disservice, when readers come to them and see stale content and decide that portals are therefore a useless feature. (Im of course ok with stagnant wikiprojects, as those dont affect the reader, only "us") Mercurywoodrose (talk) 01:11, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Keep - portal is just fine and works to help people navigate the topic of
Aboriginal peoples in Canada. I dont like it or it dont want to edit it is not a good reason at all for deletion. Topic has thousands of article......Snowball keep ...as portal is part of the Canadian series Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/List of Canadian WikiProjects, portals and main articles. Best to read up on what portals are for...there here to help navigate large topics....not to be updated if the content leads to main articles. -- Moxy (talk) 11:28, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply

In respect of your comment "If all are kept as is, i have no interest in working on any of them any more", I would note that except for your recent edit to tag this portal with a deletion tag, you don't appear to have ever worked on this portal. If the mere existence of this portal renders you unwilling to ever work on other portals for other regions ever again, then I am not sure we can help you. Sorry to sound so petulant. my main concern was the Americas portal. I have done lots of editing at about 8 other portals, and was going to start to add content here. If portals dont need to stay fresh to be relevant, then i Withdraw my request here. I guess nested portals are ok too, and of course this topic IS large enough to have its own portal. (and i apologize for not checking on the views, that function was broken to me for a few days, when i wanted to check, then i forgot about trying). thanks for AGF on my only editing being to delete. that can seem about as disrespectful as possible. I didnt make clear that i have done lots of work at other portals, which i hope made them both more helpful for navigation and made them more current (like the article blurbs being taken from the current version). sorry for not thinking this out as well as i could have.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 15:15, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
