The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the miscellaneous page below. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the page's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this page.

The result of the discussion was moved to User:Newyorkbrad/Bradspeak. The redirects can be left (or not), as Bish or any admin feels is appropriate. The spirit of this deletion discussion seems to be that there's no harm in keeping this essay around in someone's user space. Putting it in NYB's seemed most appropriate (and was without objection). I considered "User:Newyorkbrad/Speak", but that seemed a bit coy. --MZMcBride (talk) 17:33, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This essay is too ephemeral to sit around in Wikipedia space any longer. We don't need silly inside jokes based on an existing user (User:Newyorkbrad). Insofar as it was ever funny, it's got old. I created it in jest, and will admit that I expected someone to speedy it pretty quickly. Instead, many users have made additions and improvements (which means that it can't be speedied on my say-so any longer). We all had a bit of fun playing with it, but playtime is up, IMO. • Delete: If that's the wish of the creator. Though I'm sure someone's user space would be happy to host it.... --MZMcBride (talk) 15:58, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • Brad's, perhaps? :-) I'll be happy to move it to your space if you like, MZMcBride, and ask somebody to close this request. Unless that's against some esoteric rule. Bishonen | talk 18:14, 11 July 2011 (UTC).[reply]
      • I'd be happy to host it, though given its eponymous nature, I think NYB has dibs. We'll see what he has to say. :-) --MZMcBride (talk) 18:51, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete or userfy, since it meets the spirit, although not the letter, of a speedy request by the creator. --Tryptofish (talk) 17:22, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep or give it to me. Brad has become a special entity of the project worthy of attention. With the God-King founder gradually and gracefully withdrawing to become an old constitutional monarch, Brad is slipping into the role of Prince-Regent. While he is aware of this and is being more careful, Brad is, for example, prone to issuing off-the-cuff decrees in response to exasperation, and performing out-of-process deletions per NOTBUREAUCRACY. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 23:00, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete or userfy, per above. --Kleinzach 02:09, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong neutral—I think I'll stay out of this—but if the decision is to move the essay to my userspace, I will be glad to give it a home there (even though I don't agree with every word of the essay). More importantly, I appreciate the kind thoughts behind the essay and some of the comments about it. Newyorkbrad (talk) 02:15, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • comment would anyone object to me taking this and making it not about a specific user? I could see a very nice essay called something like "say what you mean to say and only what you mean to say" giving guidelines to how to tailor what you say to avoid potential problems? "Bradspeak" exists for a reason, for the same reason judges agonize over their opinions. When you are writing from a position of consensus you have to be excruciatingly careful to avoid overstretching and to accurately capture meaning. • Sorry, but I would object. Surely you can write the essay you describe without "taking" this one, which would be awkward for your purpose in that it's not merely about Bradspeak but is also written in Bradspeak? (Sort of. I think it's by now actually closer to FT2-speak.) I too could see you produce a very nice essay on the non-specific case. This one should go in Brad's userspace, since he has kindly offered to adopt it. Bishonen | talk 12:05, 12 July 2011 (UTC).[reply]

I created my own version loosely based on this at Wikipedia:Be clear and precise just so everyone involved knows. HominidMachinae (talk) 20:12, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
