From the editors

Welcome to the tenth edition of The Bugle for 2019!

This month's article news section highlights the FAs, FPs and A-class articles promoted in September. The book reviews section features Hawkeye7's and Nick-D's assessments of three works. Hawkeye also brings us an op-ed on the important subject of writing military biographies.

Turning to special events, our September edit-a-thon Backlog Banzai was a huge success, with 27 editors participating. Thousands of articles were tagged or had task forces added, 4,413 articles were assessed including fifty Good Article nominations, many project pages were updated and dozens of new articles were written. To generate a bit of friendly competition, awards were handed out for those that finished with the top three scores at the end of the month. Vami IV was awarded the Golden Wiki, Gog the Mild was awarded the Silver Wiki, and PINTofCARLING was awarded the Bronze Wiki. Well done and thanks to everyone who participated!

In other news, the quarterly reviewing awards have been handed out: Peacemaker67 doing 97 reviews and just pipping CPA-5 with 93 reviews at the top of the table, and Nikkimaria in third with 64 reviews. Three more editors were awarded the WikiChevrons for really impressive reviewing work last quarter, and a total of 31 editors contributed at least one review. Nearly 500 reviews were done by members of the project. This contributes to our amazing throughput of quality articles. For example, aided by the incentives in Backlog Banzai, Sturmvogel 66 had 36 articles promoted to GA in September. That's more than one a day! Great work! Also, as part of the September reviewing frenzy, Harrias completed their 100th Good Article nomination review, and CPA-5 passed the 25 GAN mark! Great stuff!

On the Good Topic front, Parsecboy's 30-article

was recently promoted. Well done on a sustained effort over a considerable period of time.

The election for the XIX Coordinator Tranche concluded on 29 September. Peacemaker67 was re-elected as Lead Coordinator. Nine other Coordinators were also elected, including three editors new to the job: CPA-5, Gog the Mild and Векочел. Congratulations to all the new tranche, and thank you to everyone who voted!
