Assessment results in articles are included in the table at the top of this page. Article class and law importance are the aspects to be assessed:

  • Add{{

    }}     to the talk pages of articles that come under WikiProject New Zealand's scope.
  • Articles that come under this politics task force's scope should have |law=yes included in the WPNZ template. Importance to this task force can be defined by including and filling in the law-importance= parameter.
  • For example, for a start class article of low importance for WPNZ, but mid importance for the law project, the full template entry would look like this: {{WPNZ|class=start|importance=low|law=yes|law-importance=mid}}. See WP:WikiProject New Zealand/Assessment for more information.
  • Many articles will be needed to be tagged with the law task force parameter.

Guidelines for layout of articles

Article naming and lead

The naming of articles should follow WP:TITLE (Wikipedia article title policy) and WP:NCNZ (New Zealand naming conventions for article titles.

When creating an article for an act use its title, inclusive of the year, (i.e.

Act of Parliament in New Zealand that [succinctly summarise what the act does/covers]. [Additional information summarising article content, if applicable].

When creating an article an article for a court case, use the full court case's title as displayed on NZLII. Ensure that you follow guidance for case names as in the New Zealand Law Style Guide. An example NZ court case good article is Make It 16 Incorporated v Attorney-General, and example introduction of a court case in the lead is:

Make It 16 Incorporated v Attorney-General [2022] NZSC 134 is a decision of the [court name, make sure to wikilink—i.e., Supreme Court of New Zealand

] which [explain outcome of case]. [Additional information summarising article content, if applicable].

For legislation after 2000, do not include a

long title
in the infobox as these have not been used since prior to 2000. However, when adding long titles for pre-2020 legislation ensure that you are using the long title as written in the legislation and not elsewhere.

Acts

  • Legislative features (explains the act more in depth)
  • Legislative history or History (may consist of a background sub-heading and sub-headings for some/all of its stages in parliament)

Court cases

  • Background (may consist of general background, as well as sub-headings for any previous action in a lower court, or related cases)
  • Judgment (consists of in-depth coverage of the court's judgment; use sub-headings if there are multiple opinions)
  • Appeal (consists of in-depth coverage of the subsequent appeals and the judgment of those courts; use sub-headings for multiple appeals and opinions within them)
  • Responses (responses to the court's judgment)

Style guidelines

Ensure that you are adhering to WP:MOS. Common style guidelines and additional guidelines with particular relevancy to this task force include:

  • Avoid legalism abbreviations such as Winkelmann CJ or France J. Instead, type out Chief Justice Helen Winkelmann on first reference, and Winkelmann afterwards, or in the case of another justice, Justice Ellen France on first reference, and France afterwards. Remember to change the wiki-links as necessary. (see WP:MOS on unwarranted abbreviations)
  • Avoid using
    MOS:POSTNOM

  • Avoid the capitalisation of Act unless within a phrase such as Act of Parliament or Act of the New Zealand Parliament. If Act is being used standalone, it should not be capitalised and instead be act. (see

  • When referencing parliament, refrain from using Parliament of New Zealand, and instead use the more common phrase of New Zealand Parliament. Also avoid using Parliament standalone, it should not be capitalised and instead be parliament. (see
