The planning of the establishment of Wikipedia Hong Kong as a society has entered the final stage.

From 27/04/2006, you may express your opinion about the official name of the society. Afterwards, there will be a 1-week name nomination period and 3-week voting period. In addition, the Constitution of the society is being drafting. You are also welcomed to discuss and revise that.

When the official name is decided, the society will start recruiting member and hold the 1st General Meeting.(Please refer to the schedule). To make the counting of member easier, we are having the initial phase of recruitment. Please leave your name here if you would like to apply as a member.

Actually i am getting CRAZY with these new town articles! Yuen Long is one of the cases only. I can't imagine why 3 articles can co-exist, for example, Tuen Mun, Tuen Mun New Town and Tuen Mun District? What is the difference? 屯門, 屯門區, 屯門新市鎮 (the chinese names of the respective articles) although sound a little bit different, i can't see any reason why can't they be merged in ONE article. Each new town has its own history, so Yuen Long New Town history can merge into Yuen Long under a section "history". i agree that district can co-exists, but i think the District page should not cover content of area. It has been months since Current events in Hong Kong and Macao was last updated. What is the community's view on this? Should we (and are we able to) devote more resources here to keep it up-to-date? I'll give my vote supporting the merger esp since that way the HK current events notice board may be more frequently updated that way. Although HK is a SAR, it is now a part of the PRC (I know some HK Wikipedians may not agree). Jazza 17:07, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

I've done some major edits there so that it reads like a Wikipedia page, as well as not being bogged down in "HK English". However, if someone has the time it would be great if someone could fill in more about her background etc.

Also, more work needs to be done on HK Politicians' webpages. If I had more time, I would write them, but it's easier if someone researched the information and I just gave it an English 'edit'. Jazza 18:24, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

I updated the license on the en version of this image by request, but apparently it is up for deletion on zh. [1]. My ability to work in Chinese characters is too slow to deal with that deletion. The license is perfectly fine, it pre-dates the "fair use ban" so it shouldn't even be nominated for deletion. The important part of the license is that Wikipedia, specifically, has permission to use the image. Can someone who can work on zh fix this for me? SchmuckyTheCat 16:12, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

I was wondering if any one here has an opinion on a matter occuring at the Cantonese edition of Wikipedia. It concerns the 廣東話拼音 article, which is a romanization system for Cantonese called Penkyamp in English. This system appears to be devised by a group of people who are trying to popularize it through Wikipedia. The article for Penkyamp was deleted in the English edition because it was determined to be non-notable and original research (see

WikiProject China has been started and is looking for interested contributors to improve all China-related articles. Hong Kong, as we all know, is part of China. :p There doesn't seem to be a Hong Kong-specific WikiProject, though there is a noticeboard (this, lol) and collaboration. And a portal, too. User:Alanmak and User:Instantnood made a edit was on the use info box over the pronunication of Chinese characters over Hong Kong topics for a period of time. Alanmak is an advocate of info box and Instantnood is in favour of traditional inline. I would like to find the consensus on the issues in the community.

Argument for pronuciation infobox

• Infobox consolidates all kinds of pronunciations in one box and shorten the title sentences.
• Korean has setup an example of the use info box, like Korean reunification

Argument for inline pronuciation text after title

• The use of does not agree with
  Wikipedia:Manual of Style (China-related articles). Most articles use uniform template for pronunciation and it is odd to apply an infobox for Hong Kong topics only. According to the style, infobox is currently limited to person with multiple names and pronunciations like Sun Yat-sen

• It is also rare use info box for multilingual titles in other languages. Most of them using inline style like Inner Mongolia.
• Pronuciation infobox is distracting and the pronunciation is not a summary of topic suitable for infobox.
• Pronuciation infobox occupied the top space of title image.

There are many active Wikipedian notice boards serving the same function. Its infrastructure has been built here for more than a year and HK wikipedian accustoms to current configuration. There is no value to change other than for seek of uniformity.

The really problem here is that there are fewer and fewer HK wikipedians writing new articles and adding content about Hong Kong. Some wikipedians here edit only for insiting their political point of view without collaborating. I have been adding Primary schools articles for Northern Ireland, largely stubs, to which new contributors have started to add to and develop etc, but have come under attack by people proposing that all such primary school articles should be deleted as being non-notable etc. You can see the debate at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Abercorn Primary School. A little help would be useful (assuming you agree with my arguments). I have been quoting Hong Kong as a precedent area where primary schools are listed and articles appear. Thanks. I posted a note some time ago about categorisation relating to Hong Kong (and on the same basis, Macau) at the categorisation project page. I invite anyone interested in such matters to participate, either there on in some other centralised location. Similar issues seem to arise at any number of CFD and SFD debates, it would be good to have an agreed approach to the subject in general, rather than tackling them on a one-off basis every time. This notice board is basically functionally defunct. You can check the newer Wikipedia:WikiProject Hong Kong and its Collaboration of the Month. Not much activity there either, but I think we should try to inject some activity there.
