Merged teams

How treated merged teams? (e.g.

Kintetsu Buffaloes for Oryx Buffaloes) -- Aphaia

It depends on the circumstances. But say a team gets bought out by a different company and changes name, or relocates city, then generally the article should be the same under the newest name. (e.g. 09:13, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
The case of LA Dodgers and Brooklin's one is a good example. The case I mentioned on the above is a bit complicated, say:
I've left a message for people of the main project to comment, I don't know the histories that well, so maybe some other people may have opinions.--

For teams that were merged into a new entity, I'd keep standalone articles for the two merged franchises ending with the merge, and start an article on the new team beginning at the merge. For teams that were absorbed by a single other team, I'd keep one article for the absorbed team, terminating at the merger, and another for the absorbing team, both before and after that point. For teams that were dissolved and subsequently reconstituted, I'd keep all the information on one page, broken apart by secion headers, as long as the length isn't prohibitive. -Hit bull, win steak(Moo!) 15:24, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

anyone know what happened to this? It seems the new template is not being used yet. I agree the one based on the MLB infobox is an improvement over the current infobox. Aepplet (talk) 15:37, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Roster table

Would it be possible to make tables for the current roster of each team, similar to the ones found on MLB teams' pages? I don't know too much about Japanese baseball, but it seems that many teams have a lot more players than in the MLB (e.g. Tokyo Yakult Swallows, who seem to have 35 pitchers), and I don't know if that would cause too much trouble for such a table. - CKHideki 19:18, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

For your information the official websites of NPB says Ichigun (literary "Army I") rooster can have up to 28 players including up to 4 foreign players (= without Japanese citizenship basically) and 25 among them can be in the bench of a given game. The difficulty is, differrent from MBL, the manager can change players of the rooster whenever he wants, if the player belongs to the team. Unless you are sure you can watch "the current roosters of the teams" everyday, I am afraid it is not feasible to have such tables. --Aphaia 11:06, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

It's done! Template:NPB roster, Example: Template:Chunichi Dragons roster, roster updates from [1], suggestions welcome! Aepplet (talk) 09:34, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Project for you

If anyone on this Project is looking for a project, please add the annual final standings and play-off results to each "year in baseball" page. There is a page for each year that is supposed to be for baseball throughout the world, but it so far mainly focuses on US baseball. It would be much appreciated if someone could add Japanese baseball info to the pages. Regards.--Old Hoss 04:04, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Takehiko Bessho

I was surprised to see Bessho doesn't have an article so i'm creating one:

Good point. I tried to add some from ja:別所毅彦. Also I was very surprised we had nor Tetsuharu Kawakami, "God of Batting". Both player and manager, he should obtain an article. --Aphaia 08:51, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Roster template

I'm working over on the Australian task force, and have been doing a lot with the Australia national baseball team article. In trying to get the article up to a similar standard to the other Australian sporting team articles, maybe even higher, I wanted to put in some reference to the current or most recent team. I knew there were roster templates, but none of the ones I found seemed quite right for an international team - most of them had references to disabled lists, transactions, etc. So I decided to create one of my own, located here. I've made everything I can think of in the template optional, so if they don't apply in certain circumstances, or aren't announced yet, they don't have to be specified:

  • 'TournamentName'
  • 'Date'
  • 'ProvisionalPlayers'
  • 'Manager'
  • 'Coaches'
  • 'DH'

If any of the above aren't used, then the template will adjust itself accordingly - at least as far as I can tell from my testing of it. Also, there are other optional elements:

  • Pitchers can be specified using either 'Pitchers', or a combination of 'Starters', 'Bullpen' & 'Closer' ('Closer' is optional)
  • The colour of the headers can be changed from the default greys, so they match the style of the MLB rosters, using 'FC1', 'BC1', 'FC2' & 'BC2' - FC=text colour, BC=background colour, 1=1st line, 2=2nd line
  • The header names for the three sections can be changed from the defaults, using 'ActiveAlt', 'ProvisionalAlt' & 'CoachesAlt'

I'm putting this on all 3 national task force pages (I know there are 4, but I don't think anyone else is active on the Australian one) so I can get some feedback - there's no international task force for baseball, and I've not gotten much interest when I've posted on the main project's talk page for international stuff. Assuming I get some positive responses I'll put it in the template namespace and we can start using it on national team pages, and maybe even for the tournament All Star teams that get selected at the WBC. Leave feedback here, or on my talk page, and let's see what happens. Thanks  Afaber012  (talk)  08:27, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Anyone have information on the NPB MVP award?

I have an article started in my sandbox, but it is basically only a list of the MVP winners. Does anyone have any other info on the award, such as its history, stats and who votes on the players? Any possibly sources? --TorsodogTalk 00:20, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
