Ugandapithecus major
Ugandapithecus major is a recent fossil discovery found July 18th, 2011 in the remote northeastern Karamoja region of Uganda. Found by a team of Ugandan and French paleontologists they described it as a 20-million-year-old ape skull, saying it could shed light on the region's evolutionary history. Preliminary studies of the fossil showed it was a tree-climbing herbivore, roughly 10 years old when it died and had a head the size of a chimpanzee, but a brain the size of a baboon. The remains would be taken to Paris to be x-rayed and documented before being returned to Uganda according to Brigitte Senut, a professor at the Musee National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris, France.
