Personally, I doubt "Moving house" is a common term, so I would've likely just prodded it for deletion.

Agreed - the site in question appears to be a personal website/blog of the primary contributor (see copyright tag at bottom of the EL pages). The links on some are to only an image and a comment that the image is in public domain (then should be loaded to WP or commons) - or are diary/blog style entries. Some of them are encyclopedic in writing style, providing ref - but the COI issue still remains on those. A few notes; the individual who reported these links has been blocked for making threats of physical harm (from a different but very similar IP). Sadly, that incident combined with the objection to the links raised here may have resulted in the loss of a good editor. Bill states that he added very few of those links himself, which doesn't surprise me, as some of the topic areas probably have limited coverage elsewhere on English-language sites. As I mentioned to him, I rarely worry about .edu links unless I see mass canvassing going on. From what I can tell, most of Bill's contributions have been in the areas of content and organization. I'd like to add, as someone who has added links to Bill's site dating to before Bill became an editor here, that Lacus Curtius is not primarily a "personal website/blog" but a collection of public domain translations of classical texts and reference works on classical history. It is highly useful for referencing articles on classical subjects because it can be linked chapter and verse, so if a particular article makes reference to, say, Cassius Dio's Roman History or Ptolemy's Geography, the reader can follow the link in the footnote and find out exactly what Cassius Dio or Ptolemy said on the subject. That seems to me entirely within the spirit of Wikipedia in terms of making knowledge accessible. Also, since the site is not commercial and does not carry advertising, calling it "spam" seems to be misguided. I've tried following a few links to Bill's site and get a "403 forbidden" page, although I can access those pages directly, so it seems his site is blocked from Wikipedia. See my reply below - the intial post of "personal website/blog" was based specifically on the first few links that I followed to his site (contain "diary" in the link name). Having followed the link to the previous commenter's talk page, I see it's Bill himself who is responsible for blocking links to his site from Wikipedia. Given what seems to have unfortunately happened, it would be good for Bill to be asked to agree about unblocking it. I hope he does. I hope for good measure we can encourage him to return. From what I can see, the person who openned the issue here was the same one harassing Bill. I fell for his bait and didn't verify who had added the links when I agreed with the anon above. Some of the links were inapropriate (blog/diary entries, or image-only) - but many, many more were of encyclopedic value. A partial cleanup of only the questionable ones would have been enough to meet WP guidelines (and those may not have even been submitted by Bill in the first place).
Unfortuneately, it appears that Bill chose (for Wikipedia) the worst possible outcome from the anon's harrassment and baiting. I too hope that he reconsiders and makes the sources available once again. --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 22:08, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

I was simply providing further information and linking to photos that are copyright to me that I do not wish to relinquish copies of. Removing the photography links has made the article poorer. Can someone please look into the links to modelsobserver.com? I came across this site when it was repeatedly added to Bodybuilding supplement. It has been added to many other articles by various IP addresses. In some cases, removal of the link by other editors has resulted in fairly aggressive re-addition (see this example). I think the site has limited usefulness to the articles it is linked from, but I'd like a second opinion. Deli nk (talk) 19:05, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Our spammer gets quite testy in his edit summaries when his links are questioned or deleted.
This domain needs blacklisting on the meta blacklist at meta:Talk:Spam blacklist. I'm an admin on Meta and I'll be happy to handle this on meta tomorrow but I don't have any more time to work on this today. Can someone first remove these links before blacklisting? Thanks!
Since our spammer uses dynamic IPs and is hard to reach via talk pages, I suggest putting a link to this discussion in the edit summaries for link removal:

I have reverted the addition of this link, as it is clearly a spamlink -- it appears to be an online store of sorts. User has been warned thrice but continues to add the links.
