The 2000 Welwyn Hatfield District Council election took place on 6 May 2000 to elect members of

1999 election.[2]

After the election, the composition of the council was:

The results saw Labour gain control of the council with a majority of 2 over the Conservatives, which was a reversal of the trend of the 2000 local elections where Labour overall lost almost 600 councillors.[5]
