Bucklin is a city in Ford County, Kansas, United States.^[1] As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 727.^[3] It is located along U.S. Route 54 highway.

History

The community was originally called Corbitt^[1] when it was laid out about 1885. It was renamed Bucklin in 1887, after Bucklin Township.^[4]

Bucklin was incorporated in 1909. It was situated at the junction of two railroads.^[5]

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.59 square miles (1.53 km²), of which 0.56 square miles (1.45 km²) is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 km²) is water.^[6]

Of the 284 households, 32.4% had children under the age of 18; 51.1% were married couples living together; 21.1% had a female householder with no spouse or partner present. 28.2% of households consisted of individuals and 13.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.[9] The average household size was 2.1 and the average family size was 2.6.^[13] The percent of those with a bachelor’s degree or higher was estimated to be 23.9% of the population.^[14]

28.7% of the population was under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 19.8% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 20.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41.3 years. For every 100 females, there were 110.7 males.^[9] For every 100 females ages 18 and older, there were 112.3 males.^[9]

There were 287 households, of which 39.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.8% were married couples living together, 10.5% had a female householder with no husband present, 3.8% had a male householder with no wife present, and 28.9% were non-families. 25.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.17.

The median age in the city was 35 years. 30.4% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.4% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 23.4% were from 25 to 44; 22.5% were from 45 to 64; and 17.3% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 49.1% male and 50.9% female.

The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.99.

In the city, the population was spread out, with 28.4% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 16.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 96.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.7 males.
