Castelseprio is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Varese in the Italian region Lombardy, located about 35 kilometres (22 mi) northwest of Milan and about 11 kilometres (7 mi) south of Varese, bordering the municipalities of Cairate, Carnago, Gornate-Olona and Lonate Ceppino.
The main centre, formerly known as Vico Seprio (a name still in informal local use) is near the historically significant ruins of the ancient and medieval city of
UNESCO World Heritage Site
since 2011.
The modern village of Castelseprio has a population of 1,276 [3] and area of 3.9 square kilometres (1.5 sq mi).[4]
