Chester is a town in Dodge County, Wisconsin. The population was 960 at the 2000 census. The unincorporated communities of Atwater and East Waupun are located in the town.

History

A post office called Chester was established in 1847, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1918.^[3] The town was named after Chester, Massachusetts.^[4]

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 34.4 square miles (89.1 km²), of which, 33.2 square miles (86.0 km²) of it is land and 1.2 square miles (3.2 km²) of it (3.54%) is water.

The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.08.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 20.3% under the age of 18, 11.1% from 18 to 24, 40.1% from 25 to 44, 18.1% from 45 to 64, and 10.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females, there were 171.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 198.8 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $49,688, and the median income for a family was $55,125. Males had a median income of $32,188 versus $28,750 for females. The
