Fisher Brewer (born 2002) is a 21-year-old professional sports writer known for his work with Sports Illustrated[1], primarily covering the South Carolina Gamecocks.[2]

Early Life and Education

Brewer was born in Glasgow, Kentucky, and raised in various cities, including Jacksonville, Florida, Columbia, South Carolina, Tybee Island, Georgia, Augusta, Georgia, and Beaufort, South Carolina. He attended a private school in Augusta, GA, graduating as one of the school’s top students and earning several scholarships. He had planned to enroll in the sports marketing program at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida, but dropped out due to family concerns during COVID-19.

Career

Brewer began his career with an internship with the University of South Carolina men's basketball team and also worked for the University of Texas before transitioning to pursue a career in writing. Initially freelancing on Twitter under the pseudonym "USCTalk," he gained recognition in the sports community. He was later offered a position to write for Rivals.com but returned to freelancing. Brewer was eventually discovered by Sports Illustrated and has been working with them since 2023.

Notable Work

In his role at Sports Illustrated, Brewer has established a successful brand in the South Carolina market. His articles consistently attract significant attention, with millions of views every few months. He boasts a substantial online following of over 15,000.

Fish Bomb

The "Fish Bomb" has become quite popular in the South Carolina sports industry since SI lacks recruiting predictions like competitors such as 247 Sports, ON3 Sports, or Rivals.com. Fans coined this nickname for posts containing key information, similar to the well-known "Woj Bomb" on Twitter from ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski. Fisher started a popular segment in his articles, creating a section for his predictions, providing key information along with a confidence rating. This segment has gained popularity and has a Twitter account dedicated to keeping track of everything Fisher publishes.

Personal Life

Outside of his professional career, Brewer is known for his dedication to sports journalism and his passion for covering college athletics, particularly the South Carolina Gamecocks. This passion traces back to his playing days, as Fisher was a multisport athlete who represented the state of Florida in baseball and also participated in football, basketball, and soccer throughout his sports career. Additionally, Fisher is a professional photographer for Sports Illustrated and has a well-known hobby in graphic design. He utilized his skills to work for Augusta University for a year as the creative media manager over the Augusta Men’s Basketball Team team. During his tenure, the team won 27 games, secured two conference championships, and earned the No.1 seed in the NCAA D2 tournament that year.
