Smooth Friction (Ismut Priksyun) is a Filipino rock band based in Cebu City, Philippines, that popularized the song "Solid ug Lawas"[1]. The band formed in 2000 and is known for their progressive music, often mixed with bawdy lyrics. The line up at the time are still the original core members as of today, Valbrian Amodia on vocals, Xzjayk Caing on guitar, Heinrich Lezama on bass, and Kerryl Demeterio on drums.

In 2000 they released a various artist compilation album (Blueprint Vol. One), the following year in 2001, they had a double debut album release, "Oh Yeah" album with songs of Jazzy overtones and "Analize" album delving into Experimental Rock and Industrial/Electronica music.

In the succeeding years they would be part of another various artist compilation, 1 (one) EP, and 6 (six) more full length album totaling to 8 independently released studio albums.[2] Currently, they have about 100+ songs/tracks recorded and released already,[3] and several music videos,[4] which are available on most streaming media platforms.

The band usually have songs in multiple languages like

Waray-waray, Tagalog and in English. They are also one of several local bands who paved the way for more Cebuano or Bisaya language songs to be created in the early 2000's.[5]

Smooth Friction Music

Considered as musical pranksters by their peers and known for their eclectic sound and fusion of genres[6] like rock, metal, pop, jazz, blues, Pinoy folk, alternative music, and comedy rock. The band's sound often features a mix of electric and acoustic instrumentation, with driving guitar riffs, punchy double bass drums, melodic hooks, and dynamic vocal performances,[7] and funny lyrics, that one of their unforgettable Bisaya song "Solid ug Lawas" rocked the local music scene,[8] since the early 2000's

With their wide variety of original songs in any genre like Jazz, Metal and Blues, their other songs "The V Song" and "Loser"[9] are also worth listening to. Currently, they are in progress of completing the next Smooth Friction full length album.

Musical Theatre and In Films

Smooth Friction music was part of Filipino films either as Needle Drops[10] on certain scenes (background music) or promotional trailer. This includes "DandanSoy" in the "Di Ingon Nato" 2011 horror movie trailer.[11] The "Confessional"[12](2007) award winning mockumentary Indie Film, and "1st Time" with Viva Hot babes (2003).

In 2015, Smooth Friction's popular song "Solid og Lawas"[13] was part of the Bisrock Jukebox Musicale, Gugmang Giatay co-written by Jude Gitamondoc, and was chosen by the Philippine Daily Inquirer as the Best Musical in 2017.
