État Pied-Noir refers to the claim made by certain Pied-Noir individuals and organizations asserting sovereignty and nationhood.

History

The Pied-Noir are individuals of European-origin born in French-controlled North Africa, particularly in Algeria. Following the end of the Algerian War, they left en masse as French citizens and resettled mostly in the south of France. While French citizens, the Pieds-Noirs were largely descendants of Spanish, Italian, and Maltese settlers, as well as ethnic French. Nevertheless, they have remained fiercely loyal to France throughout the history of French Algeria and its aftermath.

Provisional government

The Gouvernement provisoire Pied-Noir en exil (lit.'Provisional Government of the Pied-Noir in exile') was established on 1 October 2016 in Montpellier by a small group of veteran Pied-Noir activists in response to what they perceived as marginalization by successive French governments.[2] A written constitution was formalized the following year in Nice. This document outlines the aims of peace and neutrality, as well as the basis for Pied-Noir sovereignty as claimed in international law.[3] The GPPNE has expressed a desire for membership in the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization[4] and even to acquire territory in the Mediterranean region,[5] under the name of "the federation of the Two Shores". They dream of acquiring a separate territory in France or Spain, although they have made no specific territorial claims.[5][6] "Yesterday, a million Pieds-Noirs became migrants. Today, through births and alliances, there are 5 million of them, Located mainly on the Mediterranean coast of Algeria, but established on all the Continents and in all areas of human activity. They have become an essential force of memory and testimony."[7]

On 4 July 2016, Maître Jacques Villard drafted and signed the declaration of self-determination of the Pied-Noir People and the Pied-Noir Nation. On 1 October 2016, Maître Pierre Courbis drafted and signed the founding act of the Pied-Noir State.[7] The objective of the Pied-Noir State, until 13 May 2022, was to finalize a purchase agreement for the acquisition of a national territory on the northwestern shore of the Mediterranean.[8]

The motto of the Fédération des Deux Rives, Pied-Noir State, "La paix pour seul combat !" directly translates to "Peace for only combat!"

Flag

The Dove of Peace, set against a blue background, symbolizes the motto of the State: "Peace for only combat." The three colors of the French Flag reflect our deep love for France and our connection to La Francophonie. The Blue of the Sea represents our journey to North Africa, our subsequent exile, and our diaspora across the globe. The White signifies our commitment to peace and our aspiration for neutrality in global conflicts. The Red symbolizes the bloodshed and sacrifices endured by both past and present generations of Pieds-Noirs.[9]

In the center of the white field lies the Sun, which nurtured the growth of the Pied-Noir people, and within the sun, the Blackfoot symbols represent our uniqueness and unity. The Four Stars represent the countries where we were born and thrived: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Egypt.[10]
