Gaston is named for the Gaston family.[5]
Geography
Gaston is located on the banks of Bull Swamp Creek. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.4 square miles (8.8 km2), all land.

The average household size was 2.69 and the average family size was 3.08.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 28.9% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 31.9% from 25 to 44, 22.9% from 45 to 64, and 8.1% who were 65 years of age or older.
