Gustav Wilhelm Belfrage (c. 1834–1882) was an American

insect collector. He was born in Stockholm, Sweden, but travelled to the United States in 1860 where he settled in Bosque County, Texas.[1][2][3]

Belfrage collected thousands of insect specimens near his home and sold them to collectors and scientists all over the world.[3] Many species were first described based on specimens he collected.[2][4][5] Scientists sometimes named these newly described species after him, such as the moth Caloptilia belfragella[4] and the beetle Peploglyptus belfragei.[5]
