As a rule of thumb, if the editor is an active editor, ask him. If he's not, consider emailing him. If he appears to be unreachable, and the userspace draft is clearly decent draft of a notable topic which does not have an article or a different draft (check Drafts: and Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/ ), consider moving it to either Draft: or WT:AFC/ or, if there's any chance that this might be controversial, opening a discussion on a relevant WikiProject or just create a new page from scratch. Whatever you do, bear in mind that making such a heavy edit to another user's page or moving it can come back to bite you.
One general exception: If you are making edits to enforce policy or guidelines that apply to either userspace drafts or user-sub-pages in general, then you should make that edit. Examples including hiding copyright violations and BLP violations or other things that are simply not appropriate for user-space, or moving a user-space draft that is on the user's actual user page to a sub-page (be sure to UN-CHECK the "also move talk page" checkbox). If you make any edits of this nature, it's polite (I would say "implicitly required") to notify the editor on his talk page. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 22:38, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

So what is a Userspace draft?

After reading through this page, I'm still completely unsure of what a userspace draft is, or what a legitimate purpose of using one would be. Any help on this would be fantastic. Are userspace drafts a space where you can draft and save changes to an actual (mainspace...(?)) article? notability. You don't have to make a userspace draft before posting a new page. Some editors just prefer having a place to organize either a new article or large changes to an existing article in their userspace before throwing it out into the mainspace where everybody can jump on it. Suggestion on a minor edit

On the page;

it seems like; the sentence,
Userspace Drafts are typically made on a "user subpage" (e.g. User:Example/Lipsum). ...
needs to be updated as;
Userspace Drafts are typically made on a "user subpage" (e.g. User:Example/sandbox/Lipsum). ...
because currently a draft is created with this path, I mean, as a subpage of the user's sandbox.

If it is in Userspace, there is no difference. They are the same. I suppose you could say that if the user is experimenting with formatting it is a “sandbox”... and if they are experimenting with wording it is a “draft”... but it should be viewed as an experiment in either case. In this article:

  • Userspace Drafts are typically made on a "user subpage" that starts with "User:". Use this format [[User:UserHandle/Lipsum]] (which creates User:UserHandle/Lipsum). Adapt that format to your personal needs.

Example of user draft in Draft: namespace

I cannot understand the intent of Draft:Example/Username. I see 'Example' is the example username. If there is a draft article that has identical name as 'Example' username, they collide. Shouldn't it be Draft:Username/Example/Lipsum or something? AkiGoto (talk) 05:23, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This information page is not about stuff in

Harassment of editors who are creating content on subpages

We need to say something that forbids stalking and harassment of editors who are working on legitimate content on their subpages. While nothing is truly and fully "personal" here (even though the editor does initially own the copyright of what they create), and any editor who is obsessed enough about another editor's actions can observe what they are doing, they should not disturb that editor's content creation activities, ridicule them, or broadcast what they are doing on their subpage if what is being done there does not violate any rules. Such harassment is uncollegial and disruptive.

If there is any legitimate concern about such a subpage, the editor should be approached on their talk page in a civil manner and the issues discussed there and only there. (Note that using the talk page of a subpage does not ping the editor, so use their regular talk page.) They should AGF and be civil, not try to get another editor in trouble. Bad-faith editors who obsessively stalk other editors and ridicule what they are doing are detrimental to the project. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 17:40, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
