Klaus Emmerich (

racist remarks following Barack Obama's win of the 2008 U.S. presidential election.[2] David F. Girard-diCarlo, U.S. ambassador to Austria, officially protested against Emmerich’s remarks on November 14, 2008.[3][4]

Emmerich died from COVID-19 in Vienna, on 25 February 2021, at age 92, during the COVID-19 pandemic in Austria.[5]
