Lawrence Charles Kaufman (born November 15, 1947) is an American

International Master
in 1980.

He has written that a variant of Capablanca chessGrand Chess "is an excellent game and deserves a bigger following".[7]

He is also a shogi player and teacher. In 1999, he was the only person in the world to have earned a 2400 rating in both chess and shogi.[8]
