Laton /ˈltən/ is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fresno County, California, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census, up from 1,236 at the 2000 census. Laton is located 23 miles (37 km) south-southeast of Fresno,[6] at an elevation of 259 feet (79 m).[5]

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.9 square miles (4.9 km2), all of it land.

History

Laton's first post office opened in 1900, having been transferred from Lillis.[6] The name honors Charles A. Laton, who owned the Rancho Laguna de Tache Mexican land grant.[6]

The median age was 29.4 years. For every 100 females, there were 108.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 107.7 males.

There were 331 households, out of which 49.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.7% were married couples living together, 15.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 13.6% were non-families. 10.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 4.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.72 and the average family size was 3.96.

In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 35.9% under the age of 18, 11.7% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 18.1% from 45 to 64, and 7.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 27 years. For every 100 females, there were 100.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.5 males.
