Miss Universe Colombia 2022 was the third Miss Universe Colombia pageant, held at the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá, Colombia, on July 23, 2022.
The final night was broadcast live on the official platform of the Miss Universe Colombia Organization. At the end of the event, Valeria Ayos, Miss Universe Colombia 2021 of Cartagena crowned María Fernanda Aristizábal of Quindío as her successor.[1]
Background
Once Valeria Ayos' successful participation in Miss Universe 2021, where she finished in the Top 5, was completed,[2] the Miss Universe Colombia Organization, chaired by Natalie Ackermann, began the planning process to choose the next representative of the Colombians heading to the international contest. In principle, the possibility of developing the contest normally was considered, in the same way as it had been carried out during the years 2020 and 2021; However, the need to have adequate time to prepare the national delegate influenced the decision to carry out an appointment process.[3]
In this way, the Organization called different media outlets to a press conference, scheduled for Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at the facilities of the Dann Carlton Hotel, of Medellín, Antioquia.[4] In this private ceremony, Ackermann confirmed the news that María Fernanda Aristizábal, former Miss Colombia, would be the bearer of her country's sash at Miss Universe 2022.[5] Subsequently, it was notified that on July 23 of the same year the official coronation of María Fernanda would take place in Zipaquirá, Cundinamarca, in a special evening where Valeria Ayos would formally say goodbye to her title.[6]
