Om Praksh Bahl (1927–2004) was an Indian-American molecular biologist, academic and a Distinguished Professor of the State University of New York.[1] He was known for his studies on Human chorionic gonadotropin, popularly known as the pregnancy hormone.[2] He was associated with the World Health Organization as an adviser to their Population Council and was a member of the Population Research Committee of the National Institutes of Health.[3] The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 1973, for his contributions to science and engineering.[4]

Bahl was married to Nirmal and the couple had three children. He died in December 2004, at the age of 87, survived by his wife and children.[3] The University at Buffalo has since instituted a US$1 million endowment, Om P. and Nirmal Bahl Professorship, in the name of Bahl couple, by raising the money through public charity.[7]
