Spartak Galeyevich Akhmetov (Russian: Спартак Галеевич Ахметов, Bashkir: Спартак Ғәли улы Әхмәтов, born 8 June 1949[2]) is a retired[3] Russian politician who was a member of the 5th State Duma.[4] Akhmetov served as the head of the administration of Sterlitamak from 1992 to 2007.[2]

Biography

Spartak Akmetov was born on 8 July 1949 in Sterlibashevo. He graduated from the Salavat Industrial Technical College in 1968. From 1968 to 1970, he served in the Soviet Army. Between 1970 and 1986, he held engineering and management positions at Sterlitamakstroy and Vostokneftezavodmontazh trusts. In 1979, he graduated from the Ufa State Petroleum Technological University. From 1986 to 1987, he was a second secretary of the Sterlitamak City Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. In 1987–1992, Akmetov served as chairman of the executive committee of the City Council of Sterlitamak. In 1992, he became head of the Administration of Sterlitamak. On 2 December 2007, Akmetov was elected as a United Russia deputy to the State Duma. He holds an Honoured Builder of the Russian Federation title.[2][5]
