According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 27.3 square miles (71 km2), of which 27.2 square miles (70 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) (0.44%) is water.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,450 people, 570 households, and 431 families residing in the township. The population density was 46.0 inhabitants per square mile (17.8/km2). There were 734 housing units at an average density of 23.5/sq mi (9.1/km2). The racial makeup of the township was 95.9%

The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 2.89.

In the township the population was spread out, with 19.7% under the age of 18, 62.6% from 18 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45 years.
