"Incidents" with wasps and Ronnie's comments

There have been some controversies around the venue, with multiple incidents with wasps and other insects interrupting play. There are multiple news report on it: [7][8][9] (and tabloids: [10][11]), we also cited this one [12] in the article. Ronnie O'Sullivan also made some controversial comments about the venue: [13][14][15], and apparently Shaun Murphy hit back: [16] Should we add a "controversies" section, or something similar, or include these at all? AmethystZhou (talk) 07:01, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Some of it is fine durjng the summary. Ignore the tabloids as non-RS though. I think the issues with the venue by O'Sullivan is
WP:ROUTINE at this point as he hates EVERY venue. I think things like the century with the wasp and the medical emergencies during the semi-final is good. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 13:18, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply

Final head-to-head.

so, I did a bit of looking around and it seems like there is a LOT of different values. The most consistent is actually 22-3, but Eurosport is stating 18-1, whilst BBC and WST it's 17-1.

There is some leeway there, because some are including matches as Power Snooker, some are not mentioning the "amatuer" matches, and some don't count the walkover they had. I think we should probably have a note to this respect as to why we can't be sure, because it's certainly not a single win to Carter. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 13:20, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You are right. Ali has beaten Ronnie twice in the Championship League. It would probably be better just to say that Ronnie has a big advantage over Ali in their previous meetings, or something like that.  Alan  (talk) 15:45, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I edited the text to clarify it's only one win in best-of-7s or more. It seems the lower numbers from Eurosport and BBC are also from not counting the Championship League matches. AmethystZhou (talk) 15:53, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'm not sure how they made that number, it's weird that they're happy to claim other tournaments, but not the championship league. Maybe they just mean ranking events - but this isn't one either. Bizarre. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 15:55, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes - I just saw that. But I don't like "more than a dozen" much.  Alan  (talk) 15:57, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is just journalists extracting something from cuetracker or snooker.org or whatever, without any idea where the numbers comes from. Given that we've never any consensus here about the importance of "non-ranking" events it seems to me that we shouldn't be using this sort of information. If it was just the Masters or ranking events it would be a different issue. Delete it, is my advice, just a

Fair enough. When I included it, I thought the value was correct (the BBC and WST wouldn't lie to us?!?). To me it sounds like they've found the worst possible statistic for sensationalism. Perhaps the wording should be "of the 25 professional matches they've had, Carter has won only three," and have a note explaining the sources differ wildly. Even the best statistic is still wildly in O'Sullivan's favour, and the media have mentioned this quite heavily. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 18:56, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Numbers

Hi @AlH42, @Lee Vilenski has been noting that there are inconsistencies with numbers. A MOS states that if numbers are in numerals, then all the other nearby numbers should be in numerals as well. So I think "There have been 25 century breaks made during the tournament so far, including 2 maximum breaks, by Ding Junhui in the 1st round..." is correct. Note ... ordinal numbers should remain first, second, etc. Not sure what to do when these conflict with 50th, 14th, etc. HurricaneHiggins (talk) 15:20, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • To answer your question, the two-QPQs-needed thing has not been activated (and in fact has never been so) so only QPQ is needed. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 10:16, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Another excellent snooker-related article as usual. Everything checks out (5x expansion done, sources look good, no overt signs of copyvio, QPQ done, &c.), although I'd much prefer if the hook read "... became both the youngest and oldest..."
