Pro Diana

Does anybody but me see this page as being more pro-Diana than pro-Fantasia? Diana's CD is the only one shown in the major release section and her picture is the only one shown with the "Finale" heading.

Elimination rounds and racism controversy

1. Shouldn't there be more in this article about the elimination rounds, especially since this was Jennifer Hudson's season? There's more about the Season 3 elimination rounds in the main article than here; basically all that's here is a table in the "Finals" section.

2. This article as written suggests that the racism controversy raged more after LaToya London's elimination than after Hudson's, which I think is inaccurate. I don't have a cite yet, but IIRC even Elton John called Hudson's elimination "racist"--pretty strong remarks for a white guy, and certainly a necessary quote to support any claim of a racism controversy, especially with Hudson now an Oscar nominee (and likely winner).

With Hudson now bringing this controversy into the long history of African-Americans at the Oscars--mostly infamous until the historic 2001 wins of Denzel Washington and especially Halle Berry, despite George Clooney's semi-revisionist acceptance speech last year (which is why it's perfect payback that tradition says Clooney will likely present Hudson's Oscar)--this section clearly needs to be beefed up.

Also, I think the controversy could help explain the hordes of celebrities that publicly supported Fantasia Barrino in the finale (as listed in "Finals"). Fantasia had been lumped together with Hudson & London as "the three divas" early on, and was with them in the bottom group when each was eliminated; the controversy certainly would have fueled fears that Diana DeGarmo might upset her in the finale (even though Fantasia was clearly more talented), thus leading to the outpouring of pro-Fantasia publicity. Who can make heads or tails of this sentence?

From the "Trivia" section:

This is the first time that two semi-finalists (Matthew Metzger and Lisa Leuschner), who belonged into the Top 3 Results of American Idol semi-finals, came from the previous season.

--zenohockey 05:54, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That sentence is pretty awkward, but I think I figured it out.
This is the first time that two contestants who previously tried out for American Idol (Matthew Metzger and Lisa Leuschner) made it to the top 3 of their semifinals group. Both contestants were eliminated during Hollywood round in the previous season.

Top 3 week

on the bottom of the Top 3 week score card, it says "Highest Votes: Diana; Eliminated: Jasmine" I don't ever recall Seacrest saying Diana got the most votes that week. They would never reveal that -- especially the week before the finale. Can anyone confirm this information? Or better yet, does anyone have a video clip or source to back this up? Unless someone does, I'm removing this. MarkMc1990 03:50, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Recent theme week changes

Recently User:Mamasaidnakuout made changes to some of the theme week. I reverted his/her changes but they were changed back twice without him/her responding to my concerns on their talk page. So I am bringing my concerns here to see if anyone else agreed with me.

The change was from Movie Night to Movie Soundtracks. Aspects (talk) 04:39, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

With no objections in over a month from User:Mamasaidnakuout or anyone else, I am going to change the theme back to the way they were. Aspects (talk) 18:40, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have decided that it is pointless to argue in a long drawn out edit war of whether Movie Night or Movie Soundtracks is correct since I am not 100% sure, but I will continue to change Country back to Country-Rock because I know that was the theme that week. Eliminations

We should replace the small eliminations chart with one, liked seen in the Seasons 4+ page. 98.17.116.17 (talk) 22:56, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

semi final votes

hey i think that on the elimination table the singer who recieved the highest amount of votes in there semi final group (fantasia, latoya, camile, John) should be put on the table. the table is meant to place the contestants, not just in elimination. Fantasia recieved more votes than Diana e.g. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Frazzler9 (talkcontribs) 15:21, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

new chart idea

I firstly think that we need to add a '0' infront of single digit dates as it lengthens the chart column width which makes the table look less tacky and more crisp/professional. Also because we use placements instead of 'top 12' then we should bold the placements so they don't look weak and they stand out. To be consistent with the width of the columns I think we should revert from using 'Top 12' for wildcard contestants and simplify it by putting Adv (advanced) and perhaps for Jon Peter Lewis we could put 1st in a palegoldenrod colour showing he was chosen by public or, because it is unclear if he was the top vote getter or the highest out of the remaining un-picked wild card contenders we could put Adv is the palegoldenrod colour just showing that he was advanced because of the public vote... Here is a prototype however on this version Jon Peter Lewis' wild card result block has 'Adv' in the yellow wild card colour:

Stage: Semi-Finals Wild
Card
Finals
Week: 02/11 02/18 02/25 03/03 03/10 03/17 03/24 03/31 04/07 04/15* 04/21 04/28 05/05 05/12 05/19 05/26
Place Contestant Result
1 Fantasia Barrino 1st Btm 2 Btm 2 Winner
2 Diana DeGarmo 2nd Btm 3 Btm 3 Btm 3 Runner-Up
3 Jasmine Trias 2nd Btm 2 Btm 3 Btm 2 Elim
4 La Toya London 1st Btm 3 Btm 3 Elim
5 George Huff 3rd Adv Btm 2 Elim
6 John Stevens 1st Btm 2 Elim
7 Jennifer Hudson Elim Adv Btm 2 Btm 2 Elim
8 Jon Peter Lewis 3rd Adv Elim
9 Camile Velasco 1st Btm 2 Elim
10 Amy Adams 2nd Btm 3 Elim
11 Matthew Rogers 2nd Elim
12 Leah LaBelle Elim Adv Elim
These changes are unnecessary. The columns do not need to be the same width and still are not in your chart. In my opinion the 0's before the months looks weird and unprofessional. We only use the bolding to show the ultimate Elim, Runner-Up or Winner because they are the most important. The semi-final placement is not as important and therefore should not be bolded.
Also, once again, this would have made a lot more sense to make this on your sandbox page and connect to it, instead of adding to the size of the talk page.Aspects (talk) 18:52, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The column width, to make the table look professional, should be the same width. All the semi-final/wild card columns are of equal width with the finals column width being equal aswell which was what i wanted to achieve. I would be willing to get rid of the '0' if we kept the '1st, 2nd, 3rd, Adv' as they would make the column lenght equal. The bolding makes the semi-final results stand out and look less weak; they don't look exaggerated just.... fine. The placements are necessary because well if they werent then we wouldn't use 'btm3/2' as those contestants are still 'safe'. Frazzler9 (talk) 19:18, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Look at your own table, the 4/15 and the 5/26 columns are wider than the other columns, so even with your changes all of the widths are not the same. Since your changes do not accomplish your goals, they should not be made. Also styliscally most Americans do not place a 0 before the single digit months and therefore looks wrong to them and they would probably keep changing it back. The semi-final results do not need to be bolded because they are not as important as their final result, by bolding both, you are saying that they are equal. Actually they look "fine" as they are now and "exaggerated" in your example, that is the point of bolding to exaggerate it over regular text. Aspects (talk) 23:20, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The 4/15 column is only bigger because of the asterix and the 5/26 column is only bigger because it has to contain the words 'Winner' and 'Runner-up' and also I think that it looks good that 5.26 is bigger as it emphasises the importance of the final. The other columns in the 'Finals' section are of equal length because they contain the same number of characters in their biggest phrase in at least one of the column blocks which is 'Btm 3' . The main emphasis on my changes was to the semi-final placements. I would be happy to unbold the semi-final results if we changed the Wild Card picks from 'Top 12' to 'Adv'. That was my main concept as it makes the chart look more neat as the semi-final and Wild card columns are of equal width and then the 'finals' are (mostly) the same width. 92.5.90.89 (talk) 22:31, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The contestant Heather Piccinni is mispelled. It should be Piccinini.

DOB/death info on each contestant in the Finalists section

I'm wondering what relevance there is in reporting the death of Leah LaBelle in the article, especially the circumstances listed under her description in the Finalists section. This is something that happened well after the season ended and is out of

WP:SCOPE concerning this article. (I was also seeing something similar regarding Nikki McKibbin in the season one article.) I'm not even sure about whether the DOB info for all the contestants should be reported here, especially with no sources present to back that. Whether or not a contestant has an individual article in Wikipedia, we should not be extending this info into this article, as the article should be focusing on each of their performances and finishes. I have seen other people adding deaths of contestants in articles of other TV shows, and edit-warring on this issue. If someone removed it, then another person would come along and add it again. I'm on the fence on this one; even if I think it best not to do it, it's not something significant enough to fight over. The issue of DoB would be a BLP sourcing issue, I guess unsourced information can be legitimately removed, although in some seasons, the DoB of some contestants were mentioned, so can be referenced to the show itself.
