Confusion

This content merged from Talk:Andover Theological Seminary:

I made extensive edits to this topic to avoid confusion between the articles on Andover Theological Seminary (historical institution) and Andover Newton Theological School (present day graduate school of theology).

  • Historical material about Andover Theological Seminary that was disseminated between the two articles was consolidated here.
  • Corrections were made to the List of Alumni as well, which was reviewed by the Reference Librarian at Trask Library at Andover Newton Theological School.

The result was merge into Andover Newton Theological School. -- inquietudeofcharacter (talk) 17:36, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I propose a merge of the two former insitutions' articles into this one. Both are "alive and well" for the most part in this new school; the new school holds both old names and the merge wasn't even long distance (like

Gordon-Conwell was, and I still recommend that merger). Considering that each article is fairly short and still needs cleanup and editing, I think the merger could help produce a single decent article. Feel free to weigh in. --Aepoutre (talk) 19:14, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply

Support provided that additional independent references are found for content in all three articles. Perhaps an editor might create a merged article in a sandbox prior to the published combination.--DThomsen8 (talk) 01:27, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Set to true, but found a better live source and changed article appropriately. LaurentianShield (talk) 23:34, 12 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed revert of undiscussed article move

The transition of ANTS to join Yale is a change as substantial as the 1965 merger of the Andover and Newton institutions which created ANTS. For the sake of clarity, this change should be marked by a separate article for the new program, rather than a name change (a move) for this article.

It may be instructive to compare the ANTS/Yale affiliation with another institutional change in the Boston area a few years ago: Weston Jesuit School of Theology was combined with Boston College. In that case, the institution's faculty, students, library, and programs were moved more or less intact into the new structure at the new location (somewhat distinct from the rest of the BC campus). The Wikipedia article for WJST was renamed into "Boston College School of Theology and Ministry".

The situation of ANTS is rather different: it appears that students are not automatically transferring; only a few faculty are transferring so far; it is not clear whether programs are being relocated without significant change. This is a much more extensive institutional re-invention, and reasonably should be marked with a new article for the new seminary program.

I have requested WP admin assistance, and proposed reverting the article to its former name, at [1]. --Bistropha (talk) 03:38, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This article should also be shifted into the past tense.Natcase (talk) 15:31, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please update - ANTS is closed and its campus sold

Andover Newton Theological School is now closed and no longer grants degrees. Its last degree holders graduated in 2018 - at an offsite location as its Newton campus was sold in June 2017. Its successor is

Berkeley Divinity School, although Berkeley is still deemed a seminary of the Episcopal Church. The page should be updated. --IACOBVS (talk) 07:22, 23 April 2019 (UTC)[reply
