Armonk is not a town. It is a hamlet/place name in the town of North Castle.

That is true, however, it is a locale as designated by the US Postal Service. There are no "North Castle" addresses; rather, there are separate post offices in Armonk (10504), North White Plains, and then Banksville addresses are serviced by the Bedford (10506) post office.

Furthermore, not all individuals mentioned in this section went to BHHS. David Boies, the members of the Yankees, and Aerosmith only lived in Armonk, and did not grow up there. Also it doesn't matter if Armonk isn't the name of the town; it's the name of the article, for one, and secondly, as previously mentioned, it's a Census Designated place with it's own zip code. This should stay the way it is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 149.43.218.12 (talk) 12:20, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question about the Article

Hi and Good Afternoon to whomever it may concern about the Armonk, New York article,

I am writing this message to ask (if it is possible) that if I can make some minor edits to your article. For example, where it says from the beginning that it is a Hamlet, it is not actually; it is a Census Designated Place (CDP). The reason as to why it is this, you can look for it under the section/chart where it is titled, Municipalities and Communities of Westchester County, New York and in a section within the chart that is labeled, CDPs. Moreover, if I can ask of anyone's permission that I can input these minor edits, I would happily and greatly appreciate it.
Thank you

Warm regards,

I am just someone who has made a few "minor edits" to this page. But my understanding is that Armonk is a Census Designated Place as far as the federal government is concerned (i.e. the census bureau), but it is a hamlet as far as the Town of North Castle is concerned. In other words, it can be both things at the same time. Here is one reference to the hamlet of Armonk on a Westchester government site: http://homes.westchestergov.com/component/content/article/210-fair-and-affordable/2692-armonk-commons?Itemid=217. Before you make such an edit, you better be sure of the correctness of your 'facts'. Raaronson (talk) 00:03, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A "hamlet" is a general description of a place such as Armonk, which is not incorporated as a village, town or city. As Raaronson says, a "CDP" is a term used by the Census Bureau ("Census Designated Place"). Not all CDPs are hamlets, many hamlet are CDPs, and those descriptions are not in any way mutually exclusive. For a comparison, some cities are counties in themselves (San Francisco, for example), most in the U.S. lie inside a single county, some cities (such as Atlanta) spread across multiple counties, and some, such as New York City, contain within them multiple counties, so "city" and "county" are not mutually exclusive entities. That is the case here with "hamlet" and "CDP". Beyond My Ken (talk) 00:55, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Why yes, @Raaronson: I do know that Armonk lies along with the Town of North Castle. However, for the time being now, I no longer would have an interest in deciding whether Armonk is a Census or, Hamlet, because from what I'm looking/hearing that it is both. Moreover, alright then, I wouldn't mind for taking a read of this article, thank you kindly.
