Hello

Does anybody have any idea about the origin of the name Ash?

Thanx in advance!

Eliko 00:35, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

According to Sally Jenkinson's book:
"In the year 976 Ash was spelled 'Aesc', which meant 'at the ash tree' — an appropriate name, since ash trees still spring up like weeds every year in the middle of the village."
And later:
"The fields which lie between the Manor House and the road to its south used to be 'Ash Green', the road having taken its present course only since 1856. The two ponds on the green are still there."
Hope that helps, Charivari 03:29, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Henley Park is not in Ash its in Normandy Parish

That is a relatively recent state of affairs. The parish boundary changed in 1955; most of the architecture of the park and its patronage of the charities and churches of the village were to the one before 1955. It can therefore stay, with a brief mention only in the other article to comply with
