Education

Probably too many hyperlinks in there, but if I were going to link one of them, I'd might as well link all of them. Also, corrected the information on the two private schools (I'm a Holy Family/Verity/Blazer alum) and the chosen names of the elementary schools. Ought we to also start mentioning local churches? :) In my mind, it's kind of advertising either way unless these places are significant enough to have their own articles, of historical interest in the town and all that. -Fuzzy 18:33, 11 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ido translation

{blink} When did a little town like Ashland warrant foreign translation? As a native, I'm absolutely gobsmacked. -Fuzzy 04:17, 21 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Information Bar

I'm fairly new at updating wiki articles, but I decided to add an information bar on the right side of the page. It is modeled after the one from the

Lexington wiki article. Also, I added a photo of the downtown area of Ashland. -Campaigner444 16:55, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply

Does the Paramount Arts Center image show up as just... black? If it continues, I'll replace it with one of my own. Seicer 06:06, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am going to remove it since it appears black on other computers as well. I'll put it in as a comment, so that if the image does restore functionality in the future, you can put it back in service quickly. Seicer 05:09, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It may be a problem with it being a png file. I'll put up a JPG version to see if that helps. Campaigner444 14:46, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal

Please see my rationale/argument at Talk:Charleston, West Virginia. If a city of 50,000 is not notable enough, certainly a town of 20,000 isn't. Other reasons are presented on the other talk page. 4.234.165.179 01:26, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Disfavour per talk at Charleston. Stop spamming templates all over until the decision has been reached at Charleston. Seicer (talk) (contribs) 01:31, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A town's population may not merit a wikipedia article, but Ashland's history and amount of notable personalities certainly does. Also it's worth to the state of Kentucky as a whole. Celtic Paladin 08:32, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Controversies and the 'Ashland Witch Hunt'

I've created this article because it seems to be something on everyone's minds in our town, and is probably something that will go down in Ashland history. The article isn't nearly exstensive enough, but this is beyond my ability. I hope that someone with more skill and gusto will come along, see my article, become interested, research, and finally rewrite what I have written. Controversies in Ashland

You've listed a police department embarrassment yet no mention of the fact that one-time mayor of Ashland, Paul Reeves, was arrested for child porn, while still in office. Or that City Manager William H. Fisher has been accused of racism numerous times during his tenure (and even brought the attention of the NAACP after a comment he made right after the attacks of Sept. 11). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.177.22.126 (talkcontribs)

You are more than welcome to contribute to Wikipedia. I can't do all the work... Seicer (talk) (contribs) 03:01, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My personal opinion is that the controversey section should go. This is an encyclopedia not a newspaper. All towns have controversies and I imagine Ashland has more than one to list. It would be never ending. Vbofficial 20:39, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. I do not see what this adds to the encyclopedic content of the article. -- Kesh 01:02, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
One that forces the resignation of a significant part of its officers? As for expansion, others are more than welcome to contribute and add information in order to fill it out (as with the UK article). I can't do all of the work on this end! Seicer (talk) (contribs) 01:08, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
At best, it's a minor footnote in the history of the city. Plus, you don't see a Controversies section in
Miami, Florida, so why should Ashland have one? It places undue emphasis on one incident in the city's history. Now, if there were an article about History of Ashland, Kentucky, I could see including it there. But in this article, it sticks out like a sore thumb. -- Kesh 01:13, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply

That would be a good idea, to implement History of Ashland, Kentucky, given that there is a lot of information already there that could be shifted, and expanded upon. Let me work on that -- give me a week -- and see where it goes. If it doesn't improve, then feel free to remove. Seicer (talk) (contribs) 02:12, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me! Looking forward to seeing what you can turn out from that. -- Kesh 03:10, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I replaced the ISJL link with a corrected one after someone vandalized it with a spam link, and fixed the census link. Otherwise, looks good. -Fuzzy (talk) 17:49, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ashland History book available online

I had someone post this copy of a history of Ashland to our Blazer reunion page. It make might for some interesting material for the entry. For example, I didn't know that the first resident pastor of Holy Family Church was buried on the site where they built the church, nor did I know that Holy Family operated a business college starting in 1895. -Fuzzy (talk) 13:37, 11 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

So, WHO wanted to add a NOTABLE person to this page, whose claim to fame was a local crook who wore a mask made of duct tape...which, amusingly, he adhered to his own face.NOT Notable......Coal town guy (talk) 19:57, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
