I have elsewhere proposed creating a Gallery of flags based on British ensigns which would relocate a large number of images from Gallery of flags by design. The proposed new gallery would show thumbnail images of all flags, national or otherwise, based on British ensigns. It would be subdivided into sections of the Blue, Red & White ensigns, the Sky Blue, and other variations. I think it would be a satisfactory replacement for the list included at the end of this page, so if the new gallery is created, I would suggest linking to it from here in lieu of managing the list on this page. No, it's not. QM2 flies a blue ensign because, in 2005, her captain Ronald Warwick became an honorary officer in the Royal Naval Reserve. Fionnlaoch (talk) 16:42, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted to the SVG--it seems some ppl have issues with their browser (or the WP server) not fetching the images properly. This can be solved by hard refreshes, or if that doesn't work you can go to edit, make no changes then show preview--the preview forces the server to fetch a new copy of the image. HMS Astute is currently on her Sea Trials and appears to be flying a defaced blue ensign which appears similar to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, but with the anchor rotated 90 degrees. See here Bryces (talk) 00:12, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ships on trials that are destined to enter service do indeed fly the blue ensign. Only yesterday, I witnessed the formal comissioning of HMS Diamond (a new type 45 destroyer). During the formal cerimony, the blue ensign was struck and replaced with the white ensign signifying a commissioned ship. 86.180.87.215 (talk) 11:10, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, Diamond is not commissioned yet. Commissioning is planned for July 2011. She was handed over from the builders to the RN yesterday but has many trials to complete before she is commissioned. David Biddulph (talk) 14:13, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Border Force replaced the UK Border Agency in 2012 and its ships fly a different defaced Blue Ensign. The BF have emailed me an image file (as a pdf), but it is not suitable suitable to upload as the basic blue ground is the wrong shade. The official badge is like this.
