Quadruple Double

No, internet fourms are not

reliable sources (see [1]), especially when the fourm cites Wikipedia itself as its only source. Yes, believe it or not, but we are not allowed to cite Wikipedia in Wikipedia articles. Please try again. Bash Kash (talk) 20:02, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply

Smuckers, your source clearly says:

There have been only 4 official quadruple doubles in NBA history. Do you think we'll ever see one again? How about a quintuple double? The only player I see doing it is possibly Andre Kirilinko, who has had 3 five-by-fives so far.

Bob Lanier is the only known player in NBA history to record a quintuple double, when in 1973 he had 28 points, 14 rebounds, 11 assists, 10 steals and 10 blocks but it was in an exhibition game.

(i.e. it cites Wikipedia as its source!) Bash Kash (talk) 17:21, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes but the original thread starter states it. He is only using wikipedia as a source for quadruple doubles, not Lanier's QUINTuple double... Smuckers (talk) 18:31, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How is "the original thread starter" a reliable source? Anyone can post information at internet fourms, that's why we're not allowed to cite them. The thread starter doesn't provide any other source either. Bash Kash (talk) 18:37, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's also on Yahoo answers I thought Yahoo! was reliable...there isn't alot about this but it happened....Smuckers (talk) 18:41, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, Yahoo! Answers is not reliable either. Especially the link you provided. The "best answer" as chosen by the asker was speculative (if this was done, it would be even before the time when rebounds, assists, steals and stuff like that isnt counted.) Also, "Flipper" said Hiki is right, and the only place I can find anything on a quintuple double is on wikipedia... One user even says "he wasn't able to get a quintuple double." Indeed, the next person says, "This the las time I'm saying this, NO ONE HAS EVER HAD A QUINTUPLE DOUBLE.Damn." So I don't think you can cite Yahoo! Answers as a reliable source, especially when half of the answers in fact disagree that Lanier recorded a quintuple double. You say "it happened", but Wikipedia does not add facts based what we believe, but based on if reliable sources. Bash Kash (talk) 18:51, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed -- this type of claim needs to be reliably sourced. If it actually happened, then perhaps you can dig through newspaper archives for the corresponding box score. I've done that sort of digging in the past, to satisfy a personal curiosity (e.g., when I wanted to see if Chamberlain scored more than 50 points when he grabbed 55 rebounds -- answer, no, my recollection is that he "only" scored 37). If no such box score exists, that's useful information too. You can report that here on this talk page. — Myasuda (talk) 03:19, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
