I prodded this article (a quick deletion suggestion) but that's been removed by another editor so I've made some improvements like removing the most direct opinion,

, and irrelevant stuff (about Hove, Preston Circus, and Hanover for example, which are clearly not in the centre), and adding some internal links.

But the whole article is mostly duplication, and is in danger (as with all duplication) of getting out of synch — with the relevant Brighton, Brighton and Hove, transport in Brighton, nightlife in Brighton... and other articles.

In any case, what is the source for a centre for the conjoined city? It seems to be based on one allusion to a comment by the bus company.

So, I'm happy to give it a little time for the merger suggestion which has been made (please comment) but if that excites no interest I propose to put it up for the full deletion discussion process.

I deleted the prod tag. I did that not because I think that this should exist as a separate article, but because there is content here that could be usefully merged into other articles. I know Brighton and Hove quite well, and understand that there isn't a unified city centre - this article is clearly about the centre of Brighton, not "Brighton and Hove". I'm sure that many members of the "Hove actually" brigade would be appalled by the implication that this is also their centre.

Thanks for your response, Phil. My major concern with this article is that it appears to be a well-intentioned but entirely made up description (i.e. not untrue, but not sourced) of a place which is not in any official capacity defined. Whilst you say that the content doesn't deserve deletion, I don't exactly disagree with you, but I'd point out that referenced versions of pretty similar snippets of information already exist in several articles: Brighton has sub-articles for nightlife, transport, and churches, for example. The big problem though is that, unlike Kemptown or Hanover (which have articles) the city centre is at best a geographical thing, rather than a community or area. After all, the city itself is a recent construct. Brighton has a centre, which is pretty much what's being described here. It's not at all Hove's centre, which is probably fairly said to be around Hove town hall, some distance away. – Kieran T ^(talk) 00:12, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
