]Colonel of the regiment
I found my way to this article when I wanted to know exactly what "colonel of the regiment" meant. My interest is in the Napoleonic period and I knew that it was an appointment outside the rank progression and that it could be profitable. On reading a little, I concluded this article wasn't helpful and began looking outside Wikipedia. The best source was about the modern Indian army. Nevertheless, on reading more carefully I discovered this article did in fact have some information about the role of COR.
I propose to create a new article "Colonel of the Regiment" about the appointment over the last three or more centuries. It would include:
- The sinecure period and the modern ceremonial role in the British Army, the Indian Army, and probably other Commonwealth armies. It might include particularly notable historical appointments and discussion of changes in the role over the time it has existed.
I suspect there is enough material for a separate article. I can add it to my TO DO list but it is a very long list and I don't have any direct military background. So I would be happy to hand this off to someone else. Here is the best source I found. However, it only covers the modern Indian army. https://www.ssbcrack.com/2019/09/general-bipin-rawat-wearing-a-colonels-rank.html
