• Early life: "and had been preparing to set up a training establishment in India when the First World War broke out." -- Was he preparing to set up a new unit, or a facility? It isn't clear what "establishment" means. Also the next sentence says he was in England when the war broke out. Was he preparing in England or had he been there temporarily for some reason?

• "Relations were strained until January 1916,..." -- Relations with the men I assume? Might be good to note if so.
• "when he demonstrated a remarkable degree of physical courage" -- "Remarkable" strikes me as non-neutral language. I would remove that term.

• "...it has been suggested that he was heavily influenced by the views of the still-influential Trenchard" -- 'It has been suggested' is a weasel term, I suggest it might sound better to say who suggested this.

This becomes weirdly interesting. Neither Ludlow-Hewitt or Freeman's ODNB entries even mention the prospect of having been made CAS in 1937; Dowding's entry mentions it without any gloss. Newall's entry explains it was unexpected but doesn't speculate on reasons. Allen is actually a bit more evasive here; he doesn't draw a line between the events, but he does make it clear that Trenchard was hampering Dowding even if not helping Newall. • "but there were also political forces at work; a dispute with Lord Beaverbrook over the control of aircraft production had made a powerful enemy in the Cabinet." -- Same here, it's good reading, but an encyclopedia should have a little more of a netural tone. Avoid "powerful enemy" and instead say "rival" maybe.

I don't think "rival" works; while they had clearly fought over the allocation of shared resources, I don't think there's any indication Newall wanted to unseat Beaverbrook, while the converse was certainly true. Hmm. Andrew Gray (talk) 20:26, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

• I see no disambiguation pages on the article and all of the external links appear to be working. The images have proper lisences, and other than the few wording things above I see no problems with article stability or neutrality.
