Nickname
Why did he call him "Fathead"? The fact that he doesn't read music very well doesn't explain this very clearly. But maybe that's just how the story goes. Padde 10:40, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
- It might just mean that he was 'thick in the head.' Jimcripps 21:23, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
The name "Fathead" was given to him by the band director at Lincoln High School (Dallas, TX). He had a habit of playing by ear and not by the sheet music. The band director saw the sheet music upside down and called him a "fathead"..somehow the name stuck. People said that the director would always call people "knuckleheads" and many people have different takes on the name but David told me the story himself.--Kdubdub (talk) 03:38, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
After a performance in San Francisco, Newman discussed this afterwards with (in addition to myself) 4 or 5 other audience members, one of which he knew from the past. The origin of the nickname he gave for the name was much different and "blue" (not rated PG), so it may be that either more than one explanation is correct (possible, not uncommon), and/or he gave a different explanation depending on who he was talking to (also possible, not uncommon.) I have added some items to the discography but the previous items were not dated, so am not sure about the chronology of the original list. Please help! --Technopat 21:28, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
