George Eastman?

<Start of discussion> I suggest this article, Django (character), be split apart into Django (spaghetti westerns character) and Django (freed slave character). There are already other characters named Django not part of this article, and this article conflates the white Django of spaghetti westerns with the freed black slave Django originating with Tarantino. The current article title should redirect to Django (disambiguation), where the various Djangos are listed, and their articles or character list article appearances are linked. -- 70.51.201.106 (talk) 14:42, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I absolutely agree with this. They are completely different characters. Some editors insist on inserting information on the 2012 film thats uses the theme song but has no other connection in the actual narrative. Franco Nero cameos as a completely different character, this is a simple nod to the inspirations of the past, nothing more. There are numerous references and re-uses of other spaghetti westerns in the film.--Razdower (talk) 15:34, 8 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose The freed slave character is not notable outside the one work he appears in, and his new article would be deleted soon. If the slave character is not the same as the "normal" Django character, either move him to the "See also" section or use a {{for}} hatnote to Django Unchained. – sgeureka ^t•c 15:37, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Split apart

If the result is not to split apart the characters from Django (1966) and Django (2012), that doesn't make the 2012 suddenly the official prequal. The article as it was before. It gave a good overview off both different( and maybe the same)characters. There is no need to split the page, but there is also no need to merge the information together. As it is not sure if it is the same character or not. Lobo151 (talk) 05:42, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what's going on here. Is it not clear the only thing the two have in common is the name? There is currently no mention of the Tarantino character in the article proper, but the end matter of this page contains numerous mentions:

Template:Django, included on this page, links Django Unchained (2012) in its top row
Template:Jamie Foxx, also included on this page
The page is categorized in Category:Fictional characters in Quentin Tarantino films, Category:Fictional slaves, Category:Fictional African-American people
