A fact from Eddie Jenkins (footballer, born 1909) appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 29 July 2018 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that footballerEddie Jenkins turned down a move to Tottenham Hotspur because he thought that "there were better prospects in the milk business"?
According to WalesOnline[1] Jenkins died on Friday August 5th 2005. I was not aware that these dates need to be referenced. Also I find it strange that he was known as "Eddie", even though he was actually called Edwin, why was this also removed? JHvW 17:39, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well all information in the article needs to be referenced somewhere. I've added the ref to the text to cover that. In regards to Eddie, per
MOS:NICKNAME, common hypocrisms generally should not be included. It seems pretty clear that Eddie is simply derived from Edwin. Kosack (talk) 19:19, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply
